IBM, a major advertiser on X, has pulled its spending from the social media platform, whose employees are grappling with what to tell its other advertisers, according to internal messages.

To be clear: Musk endorsed a tweet which used a false antisemitic conspiracy theory to tell people why "Hitler was right"

Linda Yaccarino accepting that position... talk about a poisoned chalice.

I'm sure she's getting paid enough to support herself and whatever kid(s) might result from Musk after 𝕏itter is done.

Had to have been a guaranteed position. Basically you take this job and no matter what happens we will pay you x million total . If you get fired we pay you this much total.

You just described the golden parachute that executives take, and that so many decry.

Yeah. Want me to take a job where I know I'm getting my ass kicked to make the decisions the board wants made? The hard choices the public will hate, but will keep the company afloat? (Or shoot people for a little more profit.) AND you want me to be the public face of those decisions? And I get to wreck my reputation after a lifetime of building it up? Golden. Chute. Please.

"Err mer gerd!1! I can't believe these filthy CEOs wreck shit and run away rich!!!"

Here's the part where some teenager comes in and says, "If I fuck up the fryer at McDonalds, I don't get paid to get fired!"

You weren't paid to fuck up the fryer. And the CEO didn't necessarily fuck up.

The board of directors tells the CEO what to do. Someone else responsible for my work? Yeah, I want a guarantee against them acting stupid. And they're betting they won't! Money on the table gents. Let's roll.

She seems to be fully on board with the program.

It's a Glass Cliff and a poisoned chalice. Probably with a literal Sword of Damocles over her desk.

What happened to the glass ceiling?

It turned into a cliff when everything started spinning out of control
