What do you mean by "thousands of different sources"? Afaik the hotkeys for e.g. the desktop environment are managed by KDE (or whatever you're using). When I wanted to stop Windows from inserting "ยต" whenever I pressed "Ctrl+M" I had to do some serious AHK trickery.
