Bulletins and News Discussion from August 4th to August 10th, 2025 - The Siege of Al-Fashir

Al-Fashir, the capital of North Darfur (a little east of that deep red zone in the west of the megathread map), is the last major holdout of the Sudanese government in that state, and is currently under siege by the RSF. Losing it would be a significant blow to the SAF, though given how the conflict lines are shaping up, it seems increasingly plausible that there will be a de facto - if not de jure - partition of Sudan, unless the military situation substantially changes. This is because the RSF have been pushed out of central Sudan, while the SAF are being pushed out of Western Sudan - although, the situation is pretty complex and has been known to change rapidly before.
As has been a constant feature of the Sudan Civil War - perhaps the single worst humanitarian crisis on the planet right now when measured by numbers - the civilian situation pales in comparison to the military situation, with hundreds of thousands of children dead from famine, and tens of millions of people experiencing extreme food insecurity.
Al-Fashir has been the destination of many thousands of refugees fleeing genocide, and food and aid supplies into the town are being explicitly blocked by the RSF, resulting in scenes similar to what is happening in Gaza right now. The big difference is that fleeing from major battle zones is at least somewhat of an option, though people are often caught and robbed or enslaved or trafficked while moving to neighbouring towns and cities - and these cities are often experiencing similar conditions to places that refugees are leaving.

He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

If they want to start a civil war that draws in HTS and friends from Syria then this is a good way to go about it
The Lebanese army exists at the tolerance of Hezbollah and for the sake of keeping the country somewhat stable, but this isn't 1982, Hezbollah can and will capture Beirut if these Ameriboos want to test the south
Do they want to make the bet that they endure a siege before Israel overwhelms Hezbollah? Bad bet, the fighters in Syria if they get involved will attack from the North and Israel can't even penetrate 10 kilometers without getting massacred, slowly starving Hezbollah over the next three years was their best strategy and in their arrogance they think they can fast-forward it

for now the worst fears seem to just materialize constantly, egypt fucking buy gas off entity shores, propping up their economy for foreseeable future; hts completely controlling their attack dogs only to attack other minorities inside syria and catching weapons smuggling, not a bullet fired towards al quds; iran wasting missile salvos on "military targets" instead of irreplaceable high value ones (aside from that institute),also their noises about nuclear, but that's for now in the unknowable territory, although the record is clear; hezbollah doing half-assery from the start to get boxed in later. Now, being that i don't really risk my life and only maybe my work, it's hard to be too hard on those people, but strategically i find it all very suspect. The only shining star is yemen, the poorest of the bunch. Also minimal protests everywhere this side of morocco, limited effective actions in the west/middle east, widespread support for actually existing genocidal parties in the 90+% everywhere in europe and usa.This is terrible.
Shit. This is awful. Either they will disarm and be defenseless against Israel or they won't and we have a civil war. Personally, I hope they don't disarm but either way it's not great and all thanks to the comprador Lebanon government.

what annoys me, it was kinda known this is what usa-handpicked president would do, and yet hezbollah decided to sit this one out, and now getting got. Could have launched all their rockets at entity and arrived at the same result, you know.
Not legally binding, time will tell if the Lebanese army chickens out on enforcing this.
