Western European here, I'm just happy Americans living here are finally getting off their high horse and realize maybe the USA isn't the best at everything.

[–] tacosplease@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago

I've personally not seen a single conservative recognize or admit that their policies hurt themselves. At most, ONE of them said things might get a little tougher for a while, but we'll be better off in the end. I'm surrounded by these idiots. They're hopelessly lost.

[–] fleebleneeble@reddthat.com 76 points 2 days ago (1 children)

We've never been the best, and some weird race to prove who is the best is a waste of time. I hate it here.

[–] sykaster 32 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Exactly! There's no need for competition, but they (blanket statement) always made it about "oh it's like that here, but in the USA...".

[–] FartMaster69@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I mean, speaking of your home experiences as a point of comparison isn’t inherently bad.

[–] sykaster 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That's right, it can even be interesting to make comparisons and hear people's viewpoints. Unfortunately it was very often from an attitude of not knowing why we wouldn't do it like the USA does it, cuz that works so well. Those conversations get tiring after a while.

[–] FartMaster69@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 days ago

Yeah, I can see how that can get old.

[–] IncogCyberspaceUser@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

As a European/American, I know how fucked things are, that's why I'm here now, not there, and never moving back. Those Americans drank the cool aid.

[–] jve@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

cool aid

Already using the European spelling and everything. Truly assimilated.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Do you also spell it as “lemon aid”?

[–] yarr 24 points 2 days ago

Don't worry, we are also the best at blaming anyone else for our problem. This will be quickly forgotten and/or blamed on liberals, Chinese communists or the phase of the moon.

Logic didn't get us into this situation and it sure as hell isn't getting us out!

[–] MBech@feddit.dk 7 points 2 days ago (3 children)

If it was, why would they live in western Europe? My country has its flaws, but out of all the places I've visited or even lived, it's the place I think is doing stuff the best. If it wasn't, I would move elsewhere. No way I would move away from what I percieve as the best country in the world. That's just dumb.

[–] sykaster 13 points 2 days ago

Don't get the started on the mental gymnastics of those Americans. They bitch and whine about how people don't treat them the same as the locals, even though after 5 years they speak know only the absolute basics of the local language.

I don't know how they justify it, but they seem to think being American puts them above other cultures by default.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Do you somehow not realize moving countries is difficult and expensive?

[–] MBech@feddit.dk 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I do, so why would someone move from the supposedly "greatest country on earth", to somewhere else if it's so difficult and expensive?

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

They wouldn't. I was commenting on the fact that you said you'd move if you didn't like your country best

[–] MBech@feddit.dk 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I would. Granted, I am fairly privileged and live better than a lot of people, so that is mainly a comment for myself.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I am assuming you are Danish from your instance. In any case, don't you realize that the only reason you could just move countries is that you already won the jackpot? Yes, you are quite privileged. Many Americans would love to live in Denmark. I know I would. It's far from an easy option and pretty much means I'd not see my family except maybe once every year or two

[–] MBech@feddit.dk 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

From my previous comment, "I am fairly privileged and live better than a lot of people"

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] MBech@feddit.dk 2 points 2 days ago

And it's the answer to your question: "Don’t you realize that the only reason you could just move countries is that you already won the jackpot?"

[–] sykaster 2 points 2 days ago

Fucking love Denmark too

[–] Velypso@sh.itjust.works -1 points 1 day ago

A Western European talking about high horses is pretty damn funny.
