It's honestly not because you have to watch shows (more or less) on their schedule. The true advantage of streaming is that you can easily pause and rewind.

I was visiting my parents house a few months ago and they still have cable. I put on the TV and it was like A Clockwork Orange, every 7 minutes there's 5 minutes of ads. Legitimately horrific to try to watch anything. No wonder boomers are losing their minds

They have on-demand (sometimes without commercials), DVR, and live sports. It's kind of a wash at this point.

Schedule had some nostalgic value. I remember waiting for a new show or an episode, or having regular news broadcasts or programs at fixed hours. The world was slower, and it takes will not to binge these now.
