I think what really made me skeptical of LLM chatbots was asking it challenging technical questions from my field of work, and it giving me the most bullshitty reddit-know-it-all answers.
I gave it entry level questions for stuff that should really be in the dataset and it gave the obviously wrong answer that people who know nothing give.
Musk seems to think that a PhD is just reading a lot. The main difference between a PhD and a Masters besides the structure is that a PhD requires making an original contribution to the field, not just knowing a bunch of established things about it. On that basis, no AI can resemble having a PhD in anything and Musk is a complete pseudo-intellectual who wants to use academia for credibility without understanding its most basic functions.
Also it just gets basic facts wrong anyway quite often.
