Graffiti on glass shattered glass being smashed through with rocks read: “get out of Mexico.” Protesters held signs reading “gringos, stop stealing our home”

There is some humor in them complaining about white people being there while the US complains about them being here.

People everywhere are racist as fuck. 😅

There's a difference though, Mexico has had a huge influx of US remote workers who basically hang out as tourists and literally are gentrifying Mexico City and raising the cost of living because locals can't compete with the wages the US citizens get in US dollars, which are (currently) more valuable than the Mexican Peso. This absolutely raises the cost of living as the city begins to cater more and more to US remote workers and less and less to the actual citizens of Mexico City.

Here's an article on it from as far back as 2023: https://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/mexico-city-gentification-americans-rent-prices/3231544/

They’re in Mexico because they can’t afford to live in the states. My rental equivalent in Mexico is like 50-70% lower. I’m being paid the same as I was in 2013. My rent has almost tripled.

They can cry all they want—I need to live too. And as we all know the people who own those places don’t care but the citizens have to think. They will smash some windows and gentrification will roll in anyway. This is because no one is willing to scream upwards

You realise Mexicans screaming upwards will result in you getting deported back to the US, right?

[–] madlian@lemmy.cafe 1 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Who is “you” in that sentence? Them? I don’t think Mexicans get deported to the US.

[–] HK65@sopuli.xyz 1 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

No, but USAmericans living in Mexico can be deported back to the US, especially if the local voting population "cry all they want" about it.

So, do you think that the rich people who own everything in Mexico are going to allow the non-Mexican people who are paying more than they should but less than they were before to be deported? I would be very surprised if the rich Mexicans are willing to give up that cash. Break as many windows as you want

[–] HK65@sopuli.xyz 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

I would guess it's not windows but gringos those people will start breaking. And even the Mexican rich don't want an unstable society, so they might just let them.

Do you think it would be OK for a Mexican citizen to physically injure a person who has chosen to work remotely from Mexico City in an attempt to be able to afford a good life? Do you feel that is appropriate? Do you think that I should be able to Physically injure immigrants that I don’t agree with? Is it just limited to Mexicans against white people?

Money always wins. Money wins 100% of the time. Money never ever ever ever loses. I wish the world was different. I wish the world was how I thought the world might have been when I was a kid. But it’s not. People from north of Mexico Are going to be moving to Mexico. People from Mexico are going to be pushed out to this suburbs or the rural areas. This is life.

Personally, Mexico is too hot for me. I will probably end up dying in a trailer in Alaska or Northern Canada. Hopefully no one will find me for years and it will be super creepy.

The reason why salaries are higher in the US is because they exploit Mexico. You don't get to go there and enjoy the cheap price you colonialist fuck

[–] madlian@lemmy.cafe 1 points 3 hours ago

Also can you start calling me a white piece of shit instead of a colonist fuck, it’s good to get the racism out in the open

[–] madlian@lemmy.cafe 1 points 4 hours ago

I don’t think I would enjoy living in Mexico. Clearly I would not be able to bring my things with me because deportation would be eminent. So I imagine all I could do was pay a lot in rent and spend a lot at the local restaurants and other stores that most likely are owned by rich business people who will absolutely side with me.

Of course, I would never move to Mexico because it is way too hot. I would rather take my chances north
