I agree with you they're doing good by advocating linux and (eventually) turning their attention towards stop killing games.
I get that I'm being petty but I don't believe their regret doing what they did back then. I'm kind of astounded they were able to get away with it.
Not a Pewdiepie stan by any means, but how can you tell he doesn't regret it? He apologized, and hasn't (publicly) said the word in 8 years. (Had to look up the timeline, it's been an insanely long 8 years)
And it very much does not excuse him saying it, but Sweden (and other European countries) don't stigmatize the word nearly as much as we do in the US. Yes, it's still an awful slur there, but not to the extent it is here. The number of stray N words I've heard when travelling in Sweden and Norway is crazy, compared to having never heard it publically (by a white person) in my entire life in the US. I live in a progressive state, but still. People like to think of Europe as less racist than America, but anecdotally, they are significantly more racist.
I don't know, call it an unfair inkling but it's a weird thing to say under mild distress when playing a game.
My friends across Europe will agree with you on the word itself; in that it was only recently stigmatised. Still, I've never thought of continental europe as more racist then where I am (UK), save for maybe prague.
My only exposure to Scandinavia so far has been my former devops colleagues from Gothenburg. I'd never get the impression they'd say that at all, though they had each lived in London for at least five years prior to me joining.
I get it, I do, but he did in fact get away with it and still has a platform. I'd rather him use that platform for good than continue what he used to do
