Not using steam, also I'm on Linux.

I got a CRC error twice now when launching factorio space age. First time I fixed it by replacing the mentioned file with a non corrupted one from the installer archive.

Worked but now it's happening again, a different tree.jpg this time. Haven't tried anything yet because I think it might happen again in a few days.

Is my SSD or ram fried or could there be another explanation?

Has this happened to anyone before?

Searching online I found people had this issue with mods, but nobody had it with the space age mods.

Edit: this is the exact error this time:

Failed to load mods: IDAT: CRC error: __base__/graphics/entity/tree/09/tree-09-d-normal.png

this is a screenshot of the corrupt file. Lemmy won't accept it as an image so I had to go this way:

this is what it's supposed to look like:

edit2: this time replacing this image worked again. Factorio launches. Let's see how long it takes until I see this error again.

I'd be afraid for your SSD crapping out. I had CRC errors (not in Factorio) and I ignored them (after fixing the files). When I got a new SSD and copied my filesystem over, I had a bunch more hidden errors in long term files all over the place.

Consider how old your SSD is, how heavy a load it's been under, check the SMART report and self-test.

This is not looking suspicious though, right? Or do I need to run a full smart test?

10TB written on a 1TB looks fine. They are designed for something like 300x write cycles.

Can also try badblocks (or btrfs-scrub) to check for bad blocks specifically.

Thanks. Since this error hasn't happened since, I'll just ignore it for now ^^

I hope my backups are good enough
