It sounds like a pretty good book, with some real themes dealing with unemployment and the stress that has on the whole family.

I did find this bit a little funny:

Ramona grows concerned about her father's smoking habit and works with Beezus to leave messages all over the house.

Beatrice "Beezus" Quimby is Ramona's elder sister. IIRC, she got her nickname because Ramona had difficulty pronouncing "Beatrice" when she was little.
