I was lucky today that drivers behind kept a safe distance. Nearly had my first crash.

Sorry to patronize but hope this instills in you to keep pace with the car in front with a healrhy amount of distance. And look where your car will be in 3 seconds, 5, 10, 15 seconds from now. If you see an obstruction, brake lights, you can start slowing down, and you'll have time to react to prevent the rear end collision. If a deer just jumps out suddenly then, well, there's little anyone can do but you see it takes every person on the road to avoid collisions, because mistakes get made, some drivers don't know how to drive properly, and unexpected things can happen.
