Major downgrade seems to be the lack of USB3 and display out over USB-C that both the FP4&5 have. Imho this limits the use-case as a linux phone massively.
@poVoq @Sunshine FIRST let me have a proper working linux PHONE.... Please do not complain already about that it''s not a printer, server, scanner, router, dock and other geek wet dreams
The Fairphone 5 is basically fully supported on PmOS, only the internal speaker still has issues.
And a Linux phone that you can't connect to an external screen and keyboard loses one of its few real advantages over Android.
The important advantage, IMO, is that it isn't sending your data to Google or Apple. I plan to make my next phone one that runs Linux, and I've never wanted to plug a screen or keyboard into my phone. I use a computer for anything I'd do with a monitor and keyboard. My phone is for making and receiving phone calls.
This is why phone manufacturers must be forced to open the bootloaders so we can have real competition! Everything is stuck in Android otherwise.
Mother fucker. That’s a huge disappointment.
Yep FP6 is DOA for me thanks to that dumb decision.
Its great that some people don't care; but the sentiment from them seems to be well I don't need it so why include it? Umm because plenty of people need it. Why downgrade it from FP4&5 for those of us who need/want USB3, or even just for longeivity of the device. Its already outdated and hasn't even launched.
Its like when companies release a new product with micro USB instead of type C... 🤦♂️ just why
