That's a heck of a lot of faith in the holding strength of the fifth wheel.
I mean, we drive on bridges with faith they won't collapse
And in most parts of the world the faith is very warranted, China included.
Good & quality infrastructure is vital to a country that wants to grow.
I mean, what else can he do at this point? Try to climb out himself? That sounds way riskier than waiting for the rescue team.
There is not much else to have faith in here at that point. Luckily, the coupling was not as unmaintained or underspec as many other things in China are.
