we should just stop measuring tbh, it worked for COVID
The climate change playbook is essentially just the COVID playbook in slow motion, so I agree, banning thermometers is more likely than any western country doing anything of substance.
NOAA's budget for climate science is being cut, so yeah that plan is already in motion
