How do alone people find each other online? (programming.dev)

I am not joking when I say that I thinked for hours about how do people find each other in 2025.

Currently, the world is in very weird state. People online are either using social video platforms or they are reading news or lurking in online forums in it's different shapes and forms.

Most chat platforms that I know had shut down and most alt social platforms are almost dead. Even Hackernews had started to see a lower amount of comments compared to previous years.

I want a serious answer, how should I find people online to talk to about anything really other than politics?

When you find the answer, let me know.... I've no idea. Been looking around my area for meetup events, other events, looked for LAN parties or tournaments in my area—and I can't find anything anymore. The pandemic closed so much crap that might've been around before but now there's like legit nothing. Used to be a part of a few Discord servers but only worth it really when they're small but I keep seeing them close down due to drama. I don't like getting into fandoms and I don't want to make my hobby my life—I have other things I like doing. Like you op, idk how tf I'm supposed to meet people let alone a potential partner while a lot of the things I like don't seem to harbor accessible spaces...
