I disagree. "Primitive" hunter/gatherer people would never deliberately starve children to death. To do something that evil you need civilization.

It takes a very complex society with a sophisticated ideological superstructure and to dehumanise people so much.

Well, I am sure, different clans at those times had nasty conflicts as well…
