Had a fun convo with a local alt-right guy once upon a time. I used communist ideas while we talked, and he agreed with all of them wholeheartedly. Then at the end of the convo I told him that everything I was talking about were communist ideas, at which point he backpedaled wildly and tried to take back his previous agreement to those points. It was hilarious. That guy never talked to me again after that :D

Nowadays I avoid disclosing that fact. I'd say it's shocking how many people agree with communist principles, but it really isn't since they've just been consistently propagandized to question things that are actually in their self interest. If communism wasn't made out to be this big bad boogie man I have no doubt that most people would be on board.

I think that's exactly why those in power don't educate people on the concept, which is why they have to resort to emotional manipulation based on word association to override people's logical side. But that's also the strategic weakness as you discovered.
