Have you considered asking the similar communities to link to their counterparts in the sidebar? At least that way no matter what one you discover first you can find the rest pretty easily.
The usually do, but that doesn't address the main issue: discussion splintering
I think it's something that more people are going to have to decide is a problem to make major headway. There's a lot of instance tribalism on Lemmy and I think that makes people reluctant to consolidate right now. One group is complaining about instances that are too large, another that more communities should be folded into one place. Both can be correct, but it's a hard sell after people have invested time and effort into another space. In time people will either adapt to checking multiple communities or they'll come around to share your point of view.
I get that, but here the new community is brand new.
