I feel like I'm in those years of You really want a 3d TV, right? Right? 3D is what you've been waiting for, right? all over again, but with a different technology.
It will be VR's turn again next.
I admit I'm really rooting for affordable, real-world, daily-use AR though.
AR pretty much will happen, in my opinion as someone who roughly works in the field. It's probably going to be the next smartphone level revolution within two decades
I'm not commenting on whether it would be good or bad for society, especially with our current societal situations and capitalism and stuff, but I'm confident it will happen, either way, and change the word drastically again
I like the idea of AR very much, but for exactly the reasons you stepped around mentioning I'll wait until I can get my hands on something FLOSS. When I'm buying glasses that are running some KDE AR project licensed under the GPL I'll feel like it's trustworthy. :D
Yeah, It'd be ideal for FOSS AR to exist, and I would really love for that kind to be established
i like 3d, too bad it barely has any content, even back in its time.
