Anime characters with adorable animal characteristics, ears, tails, fur, etc.

JR Central/West will equip in-service trains with sensors to assess track quality without the need for special trains. Cheaper (hopefully) and you get data continuously so more maintenance can be planned and prioritised ahead of time.
