Gates McFadden has major theatre skills, she can dance, she can fence (though they didn't let her in tng, her and marina were the only two with fencing experience and the only two who didn't get to use swords in the Robin hood episode), she can rock a unicycle as shown, she directed plays prior to hee star trek directories debut, oh and she did the choreography for fucking Labyrinth.
Fencing and stage swordzing are very different, though. Especially if you are using period-accurate robin hood swords.
