I'm not a yank, but I'm pretty sure the president is decided by the electoral college.

Citizen votes are just a barometer for popularity. The actual deciding power is firmly within bourgeoisie circles.

More or less. In theory people vote for "electors" who vote for their candidate in the electoral college. In practice there's plenty of states where electors can ignore the will of the people with anywhere between no consequence to a fine and/or replacement.
