Every time I try to post a gif to a community, it automatically converts to a video. Is there a way around this? I've seen other posts that use gifs, but I couldn't replicate it myself.

Not sure, but gifs are much larger in size than mp4. Probably too reduce storage and bandwidth to serve them.
