afaik people still use that term in those places self-referentially
And China still calls itself moderately prosperous. Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to have a better analysis of the situation at hand. I gave my reasoning as to why I think it shouldn’t be used, I’m not an authority or anything, but I think it’s outdated.
