A collection of really amazing open source projects, where people are getting Mastodon clients to work on 70's mainframes, the Apple II, and all kinds of crazy things.

They really exist! Open source communities can be... interesting, to say the least.

I dunno if it's time wasted, a bunch of hobbyists built cool things that work on old computers, across a variety of systems and platforms.

i didn't mean it in bad way. i totally get that sometimes money/time is not the only priority.

These are 100% real. Many of them require hardware augmentation to handle HTTPS traffic, but they all work.
