So I’ve been a fan of reading the Red Storm manhwa and Peerless Dad manhwa and started reading The Great Master when I found out the author was the same as the other two and set in the same universe.

I am currently up to date with the Great Master now and I gotta say, I feel like the story telling is sub par compared to the other two titles. Does anyone else feel the same way? I still like the story of The Great Master but I feel like the way the story is told in the manhwa is kinda awful.

A generalized example of what I’m thinking about is how in one panel something can happen then in the next panel with no context we are months or even years ahead in time. And it’s only known that it’s a time skip after reading a whole chapter and they drop a line somewhere saying they’re a year or so older.

A more specific example has spoilers in it if you’re not up to date and I don’t know how to censor my words on Reddit so if you don’t want spoilers stop reading from here on.

A specific example is how first senior brother is with his master and they get the first half of the book and he goes senile. Time skip ahead and we come back and master isn’t senile at the moment and expresses that they have to find the second half of the manual. Time skip ahead and we never get any details if first senior brother and master ever retrieved second half. Time skip ahead again and First senior brother is fighting off tower blood clan assassins or whatever while practicing and mastering the martial arts from the book. Did he get the second half or not? Is he memorizing and practicing an incomplete portion? What’s going on?

Sorry for the long post and rant but this kinda shenanigans in manhwa really irritates me and this kind of inconsistency in storytelling is something I almost exclusively see in Chinese web comics so I tend to avoid them for the most part and the great master gives me typical low quality Chinese web comic vibes.

Still like the story tho. I can’t wait for all the shadow sect comes back for a reunion. ❤️

I can't take a screenshot, but the professionalism of the official translation is *chef's kiss*. Near the end of the chapter, there's a panel with clear sky for the background, and the section with text isn't even where the sky is really changing in a gradient from blue to white. The original Korean text is even horizontal so it matches the formatting of English, but instead of cleaning away the Korean text and like stamping and blurring to replace the blue sky, they just pasted the English text over the Korean text. (I get the Korean text peeking out and showing both above and below the English text because matching the font heights could actually decrease the legibility with the two layered over each other, and the font size needed to be consistent across the entire chapter.) Use a beta flash or thought bubble to cover the background if you don't want to do the cleaning and redrawing!

To be fair, there's a lot of work in weekly releases. I should use more real ink and less promotional ink so I'm really supporting Tapas and creators.
