I have spent a lot of my life searching for hobbies that scratch a certain itch in my brain. At a young age I found modifying and racing cars, motorcycles and pretty much anything else with an engine. I absolutely love the thought of taking something that is standardized for everyone and creating something unique and ridiculous. As I got older and settled down, I needed to find something to replace my expensive hobby that still scratched that same itch. I found a home in POE. I was by no means a big gamer when I first started but I have come to find the gaming community home.

As leagues have gone by, I have found certain similarities across my old hobby and my newfound passion. The main being a group of like-minded people that love crazy performance and modification. Hanging out in a stream with Captainlance feels like shooting the shit with your car buddies in the garage while you are trying to come up with ideas and calling each other idiots. It helps that he is an old man and I find him so relatable.

When it comes to vehicles, especially when it is in the performance realm there is always tons of talk. Everyone is always curious if the next release will be the new icon that changes aftermarket car modification and takes the next step in what is possible. The major problem with this is that the OEM manufacturer and the modifier are two separate entities. It is not the job of Toyota to hand you the keys to a 1800 horsepower Toyota Supra with a powerglide and completely backhalfed suspension. It is their job to create enough variables within their asset to enable people to do crazy shit.

It seems to me like everyone was expecting Exilecon to be a motorsports event. Where we can see what things are capable of. It is the opposite. I look at Exilecon like I do a press event for a new vehicle. Chances are the car does not even run. Chances are the suspension and finishing is not even close. But we do get to see the bones. We may even see it drive into the convention center if we are lucky and see what it looks like when it moves. The engineers at a car manufacturer do not spend their day making sure the guys modifying their cars will be the fastest out there, they just want to get the thing running.

The only thing we can ask a car manufacturer to do is to give us the chance to change variables. This is where I see POE being the best at what they do. Things may change but they will always give us enough room to work to change out the engine, figure out crazy interactions and break the servers.

D4 locked us in a stock Mazda Miata and told us we can put on new tires if we want. After Exilecon all I see is a new car with a team that wants to give the player opportunities to change variables.

I understand why people are upset; change is difficult. I am glad they are keeping POE 1 a thing. To me it is the same as having grand prixs for vintage cars. Who knows that may even draw more of a crowd. I just think people need to be honest with what they are upset about. We do not know what is underneath the hood, what the transmission is, how aerodynamic it is. But I do have high hopes for one thing, if any game company is going to let me rip out the engine, turbocharge it, completely change the suspension and redo the interior it is going to be GGG.

Honestly, compared to all the other ARPGs out there, the content presented this weekend seemed to me like a game on the path to become the absolute best ARPG sandbox out there, daring to part with or reiterate on some of its beloved but cluttered and outdated old systems and introducing new and original features worthy of a top tier ARPG. Similar to D1 to D2 kind of vibes.

If they can keep up the level of quality of visuals, environment, story, npcs, enemies and coherency of the world throughout the game that we have seen so far, combined with the depth of PoEs RPG elements and the ingenuity of GGGs League systems, this has big potential to become the best ARPG out there in a few years.

I can see the love, thoroughness and thought put into every detail presented so far and I am confident that the extra year of development and, with the help of players, a lengthy closed beta will polish many aspects of the new gameplay that doesn't make too much sense to us players right now.

I am definitely hyped to dive into this new chapter of PoE next year. To me, nobody has done ARPG better than GGG yet and they are the only ones I would entrust to make the best ARPG out there.

For me personally, PoE 2 being standalone and going for a mix between D4 level visuals & visceral feel, Elden Ring inspired combat and PoE like depth of customization is a recipe for success and has big potential to carve its own spot into the genre while not having to directly compete with any of those games. I love the direction they are going for with this.

How about you?

See you in Wraeclast, exiles!

Yes, complaints often do go overboard and yes, it's annoying to see a shitton of negativity everywhere you look.

But the current counter-point to any complaints about the poe1-poe2 split seems to be "just dont play poe2 then" and frankly that's missing the entire problem.

People have spent the last 4 years expecting poe2 to update gems, update models, graphics and animations, make the game feel less janky overall. Improvements that, i'd wager, most of the playerbase would agree are needed or atleast a net positive for poe1.

Now exilecon2 rolls around and we're left with "sorry boys, scope expanded and there's nothing we can do."

PoE2 could be the best game in history and i'd still be upset at the shafting poe1 took with this pivot in direction.

Anyone who plays PoE or has watched Exilecon knows how dramatically the game can change within a couple of month. What ever gameplay they have shown they also stated that they rebalanced certain things hundrets of times (I think one time they jokingly said the boss was rebalanced 500 times).

What we know for sure is that the visuals look amazing, that we can expect a lot of content with hundrets of bosses, a variety of new items to explore and new skills to test around as well as new classes (can´t wait for druid, so amazing!).

About the pace of the game.. honestly, everything related to stuff like that I would ignore for now. They already got a feeling from how player reacted at Exilecon and how they played certain bosses and overall feedback and concerns.. and they will continue to improve and try to make the best about it.

What you know for sure is that differently to other gaming companies and developers those guys are passionate in what they do. You could see how honest and open they talked about stuff and how they try to identify problems and find solutions for it.

All I say is.. if you love PoE, you´ve been playing for a long time. Let them cook. It will still be over a year until we get our hands on it, in that time a lot of different things will happen to PoE1 and PoE2 equally.

In particular, when the guy with the beanie and hoodie was discussing the item models, and when Ghazzy, Vel, and Lilly were sitting with Grim.

The absolute worst toxic elements of our community were on full display.

The GGG employee discussing the game models was nervous. I cant blame him. I couldnt even get up there to do what he did. He is brave As fuck for getting up on stage before 100k people on the net and the 2k in person. All of you assholes in chat shredding him would shit your pants.

And then jesus fucking christ... when Lilly and Vel were doing their session with Grimro.

Sometimes I forget that we are little more than an incel cesspool. Comment after comment about their appearances. Whether you wanted to bang them, or thought they were ugly.

Those are actual human beings, not your god damn hentai porn characters.

Please next time have a team dedicated to banning these assholes from chat.

In every Q&A session I have watched so far, the development team have been very careful (not deliberately so, I think this is just a consequence of iterative design) to frame the introduction of gameplay changes in the form, "here is a problem identified within PoE 1, and here is how we have approached a solution".

However, when quotes from Q&As are pulled and posted here, all of that framing and context gets removed, and the commenters normally just reframe the quote as a direct nerf to the PoE 1 experience and therefore a net negative for the player.

This is really stupid. Please stop. Obviously it's valid to disagree with design solutions, but it's not really possible to have the information necessary to reach that conclusion if the context around why a change was made is excised from the discussion.

I've played probably 7k+ hours of PoE but it has many, many problems in terms of its design philosophy. I actually find it exciting that these problems have been identified and creative solutions are being sought. Reacting as though every change to the current PoE meta is a nerf by fun-hating devs is incredibly childish, and is not the response the level of care and transparency on show from the devs deserves.

We have had a severe lack of balance changes in the game for over a year, and we heard a million times that poe 2 will fix melee. Poe needs some big balance changes if we are going to play it for the next year and a half. There isn’t a reason to be conservative with the balance of the game anymore.

Especially his Huntress Act 2 45min run. Kripp got a new spear to drop halfway through, used a transmute and aug on it and got a big dps increase (with a basic magic weapon lol). The gameplay from that point onwards wasn't that far of from current PoE Act 2.

If you have any worries about the speed of the game showcased, I'd recommend watching Kripp's run.
