Another banger from a comrade of mine. Our Akron unit has been doing aggressive works on multiple fronts in the city. Excerpts below, but there's much more in the article.

Akron’s mayor Shammas Malik often says, “Safety is the number one priority for our administration.” He said this as recently as Oct. 17, 2024, while announcing a decline in violent crime rates while standing alongside police chief Brian Harding. This was just a month after a chemical plant hidden in the middle of a residential neighborhood caught fire, forcing residents to evacuate. One month later, the Akron Police Department chased down high school freshman Jazmir Tucker and killed him with three shots to the back. The mayor has also offered no resistance to the venture capital takeover of the city’s non-profit health care system.

Police Violence:

Malik’s first city budget, passed in 2024, provided a massive funding increase to the APD. The new police budget totaled $92 million, up from the $78 million it was allocated in 2023. Police funding was increased under the rationale that “safety is [Akron’s] number one priority.” However, according to the APD’s own statistics, use-of-force incidents have increased by 38%. Between January and October 2023, 195 use-of-force incidents were reported, going up to 269 use-of-force incidents between January and October 2024.

For-profit acquisition of Summa Health:

Working-class Black residents will also be disproportionally affected by the acquisition of the non-profit Summa Health. Historically, Summa Health has accepted anyone regardless of whether or not they could afford treatment, making it vital for people who are impoverished and unable to pay for expensive medical care. In January 2024, it was announced that the venture capital firm General Catalyst would be acquiring Summa Health and privatizing it, transforming it into a for-profit corporation.

The chemical fire on Rosemary Blvd:

On Sept. 5, 2024, a chemical plant on Rosemary Blvd. in East Akron owned by SMB Products caught fire, creating a huge smoke plume visible for miles. An evacuation zone with a radius of 0.5 miles around the site of the incident was declared, encompassing multiple working-class neighborhoods. Stored on site were hazardous chemicals including methanol, xylene and propane, the latter giving cause for concern of explosion to firefighters on the scene.

Connecting the dots: a war on Black Akronites:

One thread unites all three of these stories from 2024: the victims left in their wake were and are primarily Black. Jazmir Tucker was a Black teenager. The purchase of Summa Health will disproportionately hurt Black Akronites, who are systematically and disproportionately impoverished due to centuries of racist policy. The neighborhoods surrounding the SMB Products chemical plant are majority Black.

Vivek Ramaswamy, the co-chair of President-elect Trump’s new “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE), plans to run for governor of Ohio, two sources confirmed to The Hill on Friday.

The Ohio governor’s mansion will be up for grabs in 2026, as sitting Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) is term-limited.

One of the sources said Ramaswamy’s plan was to “get accomplishments at DOGE” and then announce his gubernatorial bid.

The Washington Post first reported the news. According to the Post, Ramaswamy’s aim is to announce a gubernatorial bid after DeWine declares who will fill the Senate seat left open as Vice President-elect JD Vance exits the upper chamber. Though Ramaswamy was reportedly considered, DeWine is expected to name Lt. Gov. Jon Husted to the seat.

Ramaswamy is a biotech entrepreneur and former White House contender who, even as he challenged Trump for the Republican nomination in 2024, has long been an ally of the president-elect. He was floated in talk of who could join Trump’s ticket and has called Trump “the best president of the 21st century.”

Trump tapped Ramaswamy and fellow tech mogul Elon Musk to lead DOGE, an advisory group focused on cutting federal spending. Trump has indicated that DOGE’s work should wrap up in mid-2026, which could be just in time for Ramaswamy to make a potential run.

A second source close to Ramaswamy noted the run would only come after achieving some wins in DOGE for the president and the American people.

(Disclosure: It's my blog post)

The sheriff of Butler County, Ohio, one Richard K. Jones, who gives “Yosemite Sam meets diabeetus,” legit wrote a letter to DJT — cc’d to Elon, no less — saying that immigration visas were “too confusing” for local law enforcement. I wasn’t joking about his look.

Then held a Facebook Live/press conference to… apparently brag about how unintelligent he thinks law enforcement is.

Of course, behind the cringe is the simple fact that we’re looking at a bully who is so unintelligent that he has to ask who the “bad guys” are. A bully who knows who the bigger bullies are, and thinks that there is absolutely nothing wrong with displaying both his lack of intelligence and his willingness to bully others to the public at large.

And judging by the comments on his post, he’s sadly right.

Because Gid forbid we do something to reign in Columbus PD, whose first reaction to any student group activity is tear gas and pepper spray.

I'm sorry to all the trans people who live in Ohio and might visit here that have to deal with our shitty politicians.

From the article: The new law will require K-12 and college students at public and private schools to use bathrooms and locker rooms that match their sex assigned at birth. It also bans multi-occupancy gender neutral restrooms and prevents transgender students from sharing overnight accommodations with peers of the same gender.

Summary

Masked neo-Nazis marched through Columbus, Ohio’s Short North neighborhood on Saturday, displaying swastika flags and making racist and antisemitic statements.

Police are investigating, and no arrests have been reported.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and Columbus officials condemned the display, emphasizing that hate and bigotry have no place in the state.

The incident follows a similar demonstration in Michigan last week, where masked protesters displayed Nazi flags outside a performance of The Diary of Anne Frank.

After nearly 2 decades of Sherrod Brown representing Ohio in the Senate, Republicans have successfully bucked him from the seat.

Wow what a win! What do you hope he accomplishes in the first 90 days? What are you most excited for?

Edit- please don't downvote if you don't like him just move on. This is the state's reality, he's going to be writing and signing policies on our behalf.

Of interest is that Coy was out on bond, which was revoked after the guilty verdict. The FOP and the defense lawyer both think that it's unreasonable for an officer to know a suspect has a weapon before shooting them.
