I'm hosting and running a Lemmy just for myself, and am having no problem with it. Lemmy is great. But I'm looking to branch out, and see what else exists out there.

Tonight I'm introducing a new Calckey Plugin (my first release)!

The Highlighter Plugin will take a specific word or short phrase and highlight it throughout your timelines. You can customize the colors and turn a sparkle effect off or on.

Today, we are taking the first step in building out an initiative to create opportunities for people to help build the Fediverse and create an organizational structure which can allow developers to coordinate their efforts where most needed.

We call upon anyone with both the skills and motivation to join us and the Guild we are starting, Guild Alpha. Read the announcement linked to learn more and find out how you can participate!

If anything discussed here has your interest or you want to help grow free-software and the Fediverse, fill out this form to let us know!

Hello everybody. I've been browsing the Fediverse for a few months now and I'm loving it but there's a not-that-small issue I'm having with Pixelfed

So basically every time i go into my federated timeline I always end up seeing PLENTY of literal porn (not artistic nude, i'm talking of fully fledged porn) EVERYWHERE. Is there a way I can disable it? I don't want to force block every post maked as nsfw even because sometimes not-nsfw posts get marked as nsfw for some reason

I'm using in an Italian instance called pixelfed.uno

Some help wold be highly appreciated 🙏 Thanks in advance!

Why isn't anyone talking about this? It looks like Meta wants to compete with Twitter with a new Instagram microblogging app which will probably be compatible with Mastodon

Key Point of the article:

*“Soon, our app will be compatible with certain other apps like Mastodon,” Instagram’s slide says. “Users on these other apps will be able to search for, follow and interact with your profile and content if you’re public, or if you’re private and approve them as followers.” *

The Verge - This is Instagram’s new Twitter competitor

"Escape the tyranny of Twitter with the best apps for Mastodon, a decentralized and free social media platform."

@maxeddy tried 18 Mastodon apps on Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows

Friendica and Bluesky's AT protocol

@fediverse

Friendica has always stood out for being able to manage multiple communication protocols, surpassed in this only by Hubzilla (a software that I have never been able to appreciate, however).
It would be nice if Frindica could integrate Bluesky's AT protocol as well. Do you know if there is any feasibility study on this new frontier?

Why has #Strava not embraced #ActivityPub? It doesn't seem like at all a stretch to have the private/followers-only/everyone model map to strava.social fedi visibility.

For that matter, why aren't #Komoot or #GarminConnect jumping on the opportunity? Seems like easy way to promote both fitness and their own apps.

Edit: 🧵

Mastodon (and the Fediverse) have grown, now spam and bots are going to become a more common and challenging threat to instances

I mentioned this here but I am very disappointed in the removal of a web UI for a #fediverse project. I don't use Takahe myself, but this will make those users harder to engage with. If I only use a browser for my fediverse activity, I won't be able to see any of those users without following.

EDIT: Everything I said above and in the linked post is probably wrong so ignore it. Thanks to @KelsonV@lemmy.ml for pointing that out to me. https://lemmy.ml/comment/423338

Does anyone know of a Fediverse / ActivityPub compatibility list I can contribute to? I've found lots of feature comparisons, statistics databases and so on. But I'd like to help find and squash bugs in interoperability. If someone's already doing this I'll add my findings there, or I can just post my notes somewhere.

Calckey, a fork of Misskey, has been in development for almost a year but now it's ready for general use! it features groups, quote posts, a custom Markdown implementation, chat, emoji reactions, and a whole bunch of quality-of-life features!

if someone is being impersonated on the #fediverse how do they find out?

sure you can search for user names, but doesn't help with impersonation on defederated servers right?

any way to search the whole thing or have all the projects aiming to do that stopped because of backlash @ the idea of a fediverse-wide search function?
