I can't decide the best way to secure our front loading washing machine.

We have twins. They're fascinated by the washing machine. Lights, beeps, action... everything. One twin getting inside and their erstwhile companion starting the cycle is absolutely possible.

Obviously we keep the laundry door closed but in a way you just build up the appeal. One of them has figured out how to open doors by standing on his trike.

I could put some kind of stick-on toddler lock on the door but I worry it would be tough to establish the habit of closing the door and putting that lock on. Besides which surely it's nice to leave the door open to dry out between loads anyway?

The washing machine does have a toddler lock but that's only to prevent someone changing the settings during a cycle, it doesn't prevent starting a cycle.

My best idea thus far is a timer on the power outlet. So you turn on the power and set the timer to turn it off after however long the load takes.

The problem with this is that I haven't been able to find a count-down style timer that allows you to set periods longer than 2 hours. Most power outlet timer thingies do schedules, not count-down.

I know this maybe sounds like an easily solvable problem - just turn the power off when it's done - but that's just not how things roll in our house.

GrapheneOS vs LineageOS vs iodéOS

According to Comparison of Android-based Operating Systems, GrapheneOS seems to be better than LineageOS and iodéOS in every aspect.

I'm wondering if there is any downside of GrapheneOS. What am I giving up for using GrapheneOS instead of LineageOS and iodéOS (besides GrapheneOS only support pixel)?

In terms of privacy, security, customizability and functionality, which OS would you recommend and on what device would you recommend using it?

thanks a million

In the 00s I had stickers blinking whenever there's some cell data traffic going through. I'm happy that backlights saw their second coming. When I do masturbate to them, my federal agent looks at me from the main 4k camera and not the lazy frontal one.

Hi c/selfhosted,

I just released wanderer v0.17.0, which brings full federation support to the project.

E.g.: https://lemmy.world/u/demo@demo.wanderer.to

For anyone new to it: wanderer is a self-hosted platform for managing hiking, biking, or running trails. You can upload or draw GPS tracks, organize them into lists, add photos, metadata, waypoints, and summit logs. It’s open source and designed for people who want full control over their outdoor data, with a clean UI and no third-party dependencies.

What’s new in v0.17.0

This release adds support for ActivityPub, meaning instances of wanderer can now talk to each other—and to the wider fediverse. Here’s what that enables:

  • Follow users across instances When you follow someone, any new trails or lists they upload will show up in your feed automatically.
  • Like and comment on trails, even across servers.
  • Mentions You can mention other users in trail descriptions, comments, or summit logs, and they’ll be notified—regardless of which instance they’re on.
  • Summit logs from others Other users can now log their own visits to your public trails with GPS data and photos.
  • Cross-instance trail sharing Public trails can be shared with users on other instances.

If you’re not interested in federation, that’s fine too. wanderer still works completely standalone—federation only kicks in when you start interacting with other instances.
