No seriously, evolution fucked up it's cable management. iirc, there's a nerve (essentially the biological equivalent of a data cable) that has an extreme detour, going from the upper neck, looping under the aorta (more or less the largest blood vessel), and then back up all the way to the throat. In giraffes, it's 4+ meters going down the neck and then back up. That is horrible cable management and can actually cause health risks/complications for certain surgeries

[–] creation7758@lemmy.ml 24 points 2 years ago

The nerve is called recurrent laryngeal nerve if anyone wants to read up on it

[–] Johandea@lemmy.fmhy.ml 16 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Well, to be fair to evolution, surgeries weren't really on its list of considerations. With no surgeries to the neck/chest it won't be a problem at all. Most of us, including giraffes, have no problem with it and it works flawlessly. Is it a detour? Yes. But it works, and that's the only thing that matters in evolution.

It just disproves "intelligent design."

[–] pufferfischerpulver@feddit.de 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Not if the designer was an idiot 🥸

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

Yes, it does, because an idiot is by definition not intelligent.

At least we don't have it quite as bad as octopuses, who have a have a risk of dying after eating too much because their brain wraps around their stomach.

[–] ivyZorz@vlemmy.net 3 points 2 years ago

Just re-run it

[–] Siethron@lemmy.world 40 points 2 years ago (2 children)

You know if you take all the cables out of your body and put them zip ties, you will die.

[–] CoderKat@lemm.ee 10 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Well, that's what happens when you're not careful enough. You can't just go yanking cables! They need to be finessed. To be bought dinner, first.

[–] Darc@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Instructions unclear: After finessing these zipties, hands now bound under legs.

Call me when the IT guys can build boobles

[–] Walk_blesseD@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 2 years ago

Wrong department. Ask the chemistry guys for some estradiol, they can hook you up.

You know lemmy is getting big when you go to the comment section and the top comment is what you wanted to post 😂

I don't think I've ever seen such a beautiful cable management photo as the one on the right. Can't belive I'm having romantic feelings about cable management.

[–] demonsword@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

don't feel bad, that picture really is satisfying to look at

[–] PCChipsM922U@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 years ago

The boobs are nice though 👍.

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 10 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Not even AI is as fake as the image on the right

[–] Sanguinius@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

That’s a real SDI video router using HD-BNC connectors. I worked on rack units with 512 in and outs, this one looks like 256.

[–] ItsGhost@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 years ago

Having worked on them occasionally was about to confirm that, but somebody gave it more JPEG already and I can’t quite make it out. They do certain look like BNC/some other coaxial connector though and I’ve definitely have to troubleshoot very similar nightmarish setups

[–] Johandea@lemmy.fmhy.ml 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

That's balance. Now the right half is just as fake as the proposed origin on the left.

[–] lemann@lemmy.one 2 points 2 years ago

Thought it was a cisco nexus 9000 but nah that looks like AI 😅 those cables don't look right to me

[–] 4am@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago (1 children)

IT guys

posts SDI bank from a studio or broadcast truck

[–] infinitevalence@discuss.online 3 points 2 years ago

SDI always looks cleaner than twisted pair.

[–] iMeddles@infosec.pub 8 points 2 years ago

As an IT guy, my wiring looks much more like the left than the right...

[–] mingistech@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

Evolution or IT Guys

Fixed it for ya.

[–] Keishee@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

Thinking about my veins and nerves as cables feels wrong somehow

[–] Kofu@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The vagus nerve, gods ultimate cabling f*ck up....

[–] Doxatek@mander.xyz 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

This is what I was going to say! Have you seen the video of it on a giraffe

[–] chtk 4 points 2 years ago
[–] Zachdelarocha443a@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

Guys. Anyone know how to slice my cables? I've got a leak hap

[–] Mongostein@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 years ago

As a stagehand/TVA I also find this quite amusing.

[–] wabafee@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

If I were god I would put out all the nerves and blood vessels outside no more stroke if your dead.

[–] ashed@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 years ago

Make a shit code, do a quick sprint, push to a master. Evolution need a huge amount of time.
