I used to drink an inhuman amount of caffeine. It made starting my meds kind of hard, because the caffeine started actually affecting me like it's supposed to.

So I was suddenly very jittery and nervous. For a bit I thought it was the medication, but then one day when I was making myself a cup of black tea I stopped and went, "...hey, wait, caffeine?"

Weening myself off of it was brutal. I started trying to drink one tea a day, then switched to green tea and very gradually decreased the amount of caffeine. I still occasionally get cravings, but luckily I can trick my body by drinking decaf tea.

It made me so fucking cranky, by the way, caffin withdrawal sucks.

The email: "Yes I can make that fit my schedule"

Il in this picture. This is my "let's do one week worth of code in a single session" mode.

My wife doesn't get it. "How can you listen to this? It makes me feel like my heart's going to explode!"

Yeah, duh, that's why I'm listening to it, I need the adrenaline.

Get it diagnosed and use caffeine++ instead :P

Be careful not to get memory corruption! I personally prefer Rust over C++ for this very reason

If you're one of the few people with ADHD who can do that kind of intense hyperfocus torturing yourself into getting things done without being physically, mentally, and emotionally drained for far too long afterwards and also too traumatized by the ordeal to want to try it again, then good for you! Keep doing what works for you!

If, on the other hand, you're not able to employ that method sustainably, How to ADHD has some great advice as usual 😁

I used to open a few tabs for working: police radio, air traffic control, rain, sci-fi ambient sounds all playing at the same time.

Hmm I think whether distractions help or make it worse depends on the person or even their mood at the moment.

[–] shneancy@lemmy.world 33 points 2 days ago (1 children)

this mood is what i call "i need to get shit done" where you give the distraction gremlin in your brain candy in the form of music and caffeine whilst you desperately try to use the remaining resources in your brain to get work done because the deadline has entered "i can actually conceptualise this event happening" zone of the calendar and you're stressing out

I legit have a playlist called GSD (Get Shit Done).

I never got around to filling it up with songs 🙃

Same, except it's the Doom 2016 OST for me.

Type and compute until it's done!

Wolfenstein: The New Order is my go-to XD

[–] dmention7@midwest.social 1 points 1 day ago

I'm playing that game right now, but I think I need to turn up the music volume. I've heard the doom-style music ramp up during fights, but I haven't paid it much attention.

It’s Suicide Boys for me

[–] kameecoding@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

For me some of those songs are on my workout playlist

Meanwhile:

sips herbal tea, and sings along to "let me sail, let me sail, let the Orinoco flow...."

I don't have adhd, but femtanyl, kmfdm and justice are wonderful when crunching for exams.
