Oh wow, everyone in the replies is really mad, as if they expected Islamist fundamentalists to be big communism enjoyers.

That Khamenei tweet is extra funny these days because Zionists and white Christian chuds say Communists and conservative Islam are working together to bring about Marxist Sharia in all Western nations, or some nonsense like that.

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 18 points 2 weeks ago

Which is excruciating because political Islam was used as a bulwark against Socialism

[–] SamotsvetyVIA@hexbear.net 13 points 2 weeks ago

political paranoia is a staple of capitalism for a reason. it is truly justified when you exploit every single worker in your charge.

[–] godlessworm@hexbear.net 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

to be fair, they only say that because its true.

I didn't realize our political program was to create a contradictory Marxist theocracy

I mean all things considered that's pretty tame as far as anti-communism goes

Researching the recent political history of Iran, I've come to the conclusion Iran is a hilariously liberal-minded country and I mean that in the ideological sense; from the reformist thought leaders quoting Locke and the American constitution, to the "fundamentalists" espousing free market doctrine straight out of the Chicago school circa 1980, it's a level of western intellectual penetration I've only seen in like Japan or maybe Turkey

Fair assessment. I literally haven't heard anyone cite fucking Tocqueville since my days in my paleocon u.s poli-sci brainwashing classes in uni.

Like the only thing I particularly remember from that book was Tocqueville more or less calling American citizens homogeneously fucking mid no matter where he ventured to.

That was Tocqueville? For some reason I had that (accurate) assessment of Americans filed under Mark Twain, tho I'm not surprised a vulgar Marxist like Tocquieville came up with it

To be fair it's been years since I read it

I mean THEY LITERALLY ARE lmao, and the reformists are third way neolibs, it's so bizarre and hilarious reading the shit the Iranian political class writes

Where does the support for the "axis of resistance" come from if they're so liberal?

Well, this comment is not surprising. Communists fought side by side with Islamic revolutionary guard during the Iranian revolution, but after revolution ended, they expelled communists and made communist parties illegal. All current Iranian communist parties are opposed to the Ayatollah rule.

That said, Iran is a fundamental piece of the axis of resistance, contributing materially to organized groups in Palestine (including PFLP), and anti-West groups. So Iran, even with a reactionary government, is still a fundamental piece for fighting Western imperialism in the region.

The Tudeh party recently announced its position of guaranteeing Iranian territorial integrity as a priority in their struggle:
