I thought it was a good movie. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Thought it was a cult-classic when it came out. Not as niche as something like Starship Troopers, but definitely not mainstream popular. Great film on the same level as Iron Giant.

"You can't name a planet Bob!"

"Who died and made you king of Bob?"

NEW EARTH
(PLANET BOB)

I fucking love this movie, it was my first real exposure to shitty space as a genre which has been one of my favorite settings ever since. Banger cast of voice actors, too. It was never going to have mass appeal, but it will forever be one of the most influential movies for me to have seen.

Saw this in the theatre. Got the soundtrack. Bought a few albums from bands introduced on that album. Still awesome.

Yes! The soundtrack was fire! Loved the movie, too. Never knew it is considered a flop.

Titan AE Drinking Game:

Drink every time...

  • Someone says Drej, Earth, or Human

  • Something explodes

  • Someone speaks an alien language you haven't already heard in the movie

I didn't get around to seeing it until about ten years later and since I wasn't paying attention at the time it came out, all I knew was that for some reason it had a legion of haters. And i watched it and couldn't see what the big deal was, and still can't, after three or four rewatches.

It's not a great movie by any means, but it's fine for what it is.

This movie was my jam back in the day.

I don't care what critics or even fellow nerds say, it's fantastic and if they want to fight about it they can meet me on Bob and settle this with heavy plastic swords like Gilgamesh intended.

The last Bluth movie. Great, like most of his work.

I thought this was great when I was 14 and saw it in the theatre. I rewatched it like 10 years ago and it has not held up well, at least in terms of visuals.

Debates over its failure range from the derivative PG-rated screenplay and bumpy development process, to its landing squarely in that netherworld of being ignored by older teens and adults and too mature and violent for small children, dropping it in that abyss between the two ticket-buying demographics.

Hmm, I guess I was right in the perfect demographic at the time then.

What’s wrong with the visuals? I rewatched my DVD a few months ago and was surprised how good it looked. The field of ice structures crashing into each other in the last third kind of blew my mind in fact!

The soundtrack was pretty good too.

So there was this band around that time that quickly became my favorite band ever, called Splashdown. They had a couple of EPs, and then just when they were about to release their first LP, their producer fucked them over and it never got released. Sixteen beautiful songs that would never see the light of day. They couldn't get the rights back, so the band just sort of... ended.

I bought their old EPs from their website, and they sent me a bootleg copy of the unreleased album, Blueshift. It remains one of my favorite albums of all time. (Nowadays you can find it on YouTube.)

Anyway, the song Karma Slave, by Splashdown, is on the Titan A.E. soundtrack. It's as close as they got to success, and it was my introduction to this movie, which I enjoyed.

Will forever enjoy this movie. Don't need a bigger plot tie in. Don't need more complexity. It did what the plot needed. I enjoyed the characters, the villain was a simple bad guy. It was fun for what it was and that's all I need. It wasn't cookie cutter and I appreciate that.

Had no idea this was a bust but I really enjoyed this movie.

Top tier entertainment for those of us in the 6th or 7th grade and just falling in love with sci-fi!

Edit: I still have several of the songs from this movie on my playlists

I liked the movie. All of the cartoon aliens that were not CGI were a bit silly look8ng for my tastes. They could have dialed down the "Disney Wannabe", but other than that it was solid.
