I bought this game when it first came out, I was so disappointed. They bragged about all the buildings and about how you were going to go in them and carry out assassinations. All the buildings were basically dungeons and the layouts were all the same, just a boring square of rooms which you wandered around until you found the enemy you’re supposed to kill for some reason.

Seems that a significant part of the AO community became this xkcd comic

To me, the fact that you're supposed to temporarily boost skills in order to equip stuff, so that the equipped stuff's boosts can allow you to equip other stuff, feels like a terribly thought out system.

The person that realized that you can do that, them mathed out how to get the skill thresholds necessary for this probably felt like a genius. Everyone else got a clunky setup they have to do everyday when they play.
