"Tankies" is just "pinkos" and "commies", words that are not really offensive or describe anything actually bad but challenge the chauvinist and reactionary positions of liberals.
Lemmy is tankie because it's cool. You should try to be as cool as us.

Although, there is ample evidence of genocide on both sides. Why does it need to be one team vs the other, vs I don't know, a general support of rights?
I thought this was a good video. I’m not sure if it’s a genocide, and I’m sure it’s not on the same scale as Palestine, but I think what’s going on with Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities deserves serious criticism: https://youtu.be/cz9ICFDk8Js

It is not comparable. Read RDO’s An Indigenous Peoples History of the US if you want to see what actual genocide looks like. Things that are worthy of criticism in China are almost never the things western media criticizes them for imo.
