Anarchism is a social movement that seeks liberation from oppressive systems of control including but not limited to the state, capitalism, racism, sexism, speciesism, and religion. Anarchists advocate a self-managed, classless, stateless society without borders, bosses, or rulers where everyone takes collective responsibility for the health and prosperity of themselves and the environment.

Valeriano Orobón Fernández, born on this day in 1901, was a Spanish anarcho-syndicalist theoretician, trade union activist, translator, and poet who wrote the lyrics of the revolutionary song "A Las Barricadas".

Orobón believed in the organizational power of unions, believe that they would have a major role in reorganizing society in a more libertarian fashion. Orobón was also strongly opposed to the communist (i.e., Soviet) ideas in Spain during the Spanish Civil War.

Shortly before his untimely death from tuberculosis, Orobón wrote the words of "A Las Barricadas" to the tune of "Warszawianka 1905 roku", itself a well-known Polish revolutionary song. The anti-fascist tune became the anthem of the Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT), and one of the most popular songs of the Spanish anarchists during the Civil War.

Love getting a new computer mouse (Endgear XM2 8k) but hate the feeling of the new mouse being slightly different speed that I now have to get use to.

I’ve become a fan of WWE. I used to dislike it when it came on before MadTv but now something about it is just too entertaining to look away from

I have the most sensitive skin and literally every skincare product has made me flakey/oily/break out. Cerave, Vanicream, that other one thats supposed to be great.. I feel like niacinamide fucks me up which is in EVERYTHING now.... BUT, Aveeno calm+restore seems to be the one. Kinda spendy but worth it, for anyone who has had a terrible time with skincare. Slugging with Vaseline is dope too. This is the only stuff that seems to not irritate my skin and ive tried thousands of dollars worth of products by now.

lmfao I just saw a cybertruck (still rare in my area) and it already looks discolored from road salt.

Also the hubcaps were misaligned and wobbling all over the place

Saw a vid of some manly men getting together to do a meatfest, while they smoked it they did group exercises and bonding stuff before taking their meat home to eat. Real sad I'm a weak meatless vegan otherwise I could join the manly men and eventually become their leader sicko-wistful

Can anyone explain what the point of the Bernie-AOC rallies are? Is it a presidential thing for 2028? Is it a plain grift? I’ve just never seen rallies outside of elections stuff. To me it would make more sense to use the organsing power for protests rather than filling stadiums. But what do I know

Can anyone recommend a few books to help a friend's political education

Nothing too overtly commie just like baseline understanding why capitalism is bad, maybe some history books as well. Like I was thinking The Black Jacobins would be a good one.

[–] glimmer_twin@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Are they literally not at the level of “capitalism is bad”? I was thinking blackshirts and reds but that might be too advanced if so

I feel like you could date people based off their email address, like people who got a yahoo one or Hotmail probably older than Gmail people.

I love that tha Nazi loving UFC fighter ate shit, but hate that one of the biggest points of emphasis has been all these media outlets talking about that zionist fuck David Portnoy waving an Israeli flag in celebration.

AND ANOTHER THING!

One of the things I hate about how my work works is that because of the competitive tender process, we are motivated to under-quote in order to win bids. While I don't think our quotes are that wild undercounts, this means that every project is not provisioned for time super well. This means that everyone is rushing around at the end of every project trying to pull overtime, and we have to contact the clients and heckle them for more money. Given the uber-ish nature of the job, it also means we're constantly vacillating between a lot of stress and no work (and occasionally, a reasonable amount of work that doesn't feel rushed).

Also, a huge amount of the work is repeating work from another place because of IP.

Everyone that makes shorts where they play every character needs to be put in prison. Or ar least forced into acting lessons, if you're gonna play all the characters that's one thing but they need different voices and also you need to not be the most piss poor middle school play sounding actor. It's all the least natural sounding shot ever. It might be good to have a punchline too, your 30 second video is too short to just fizzle out. Also, none of these people are funny in general. They seem to barely have any grasp on the process of a joke or even how to create a humorous atmosphere. It comes off creepy and weird. Sketch comedy requires acting.

Got a new (to me) couch. It's from my great aunt cause she's gotta move into a home. It's long enough I can fully lay down without my head or feet on the side rest and it's probably from like 1983. It's ugly and beige. It rocks

My psychotic asshole roommate is going to get his contract terminated which is cool and good and I'm happy about, but until he actually had to move out is going to take like three months or so and this is robbing me of all the joy and energy in my body, even the reserves I didn't know I had. I just want to be able to go home and sit on the sofa or on the balcony and be able to chill and not feel constant dread.
