I’m not sure if you’ve tried this PWA called Wefwef but it feels like a fully featured Apollo client for Lemmy already. You just go to the site and add it to your home screen. No beta to sign up for. No TestFlight link. Just add the PWA.

It’s good. It’s really really good.

Yeah it’s my favorite so far as well!

Memmy and Mlem are great native apps

Considering that this is a webapp, it gives far better experience than Jerboa, Thunder. Wefwef It is fast and smooth. Jerboa is fast but laggy. Thunder is laggy but smooth.

I'm using it right now and it's really cool!

...Why isn't the bookmark button working though?

I think my favorite app is Thunder. Serious RedReader vibes

[–] African_Grey@beehaw.org 1 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Trying it now. Thunder is really good but it feels like it’s designed for Android not iOS. Very “material you” feeling.

While the developer(s) has/have done a great job getting a PWA to feel this close to native, it's still a bit far-fetched to say it "feels exactly like Apollo".

Woah, wefwef is awesome! Using it now!

Damn, this is good. Thanks for posting!!

Can I connect to other instances apart from 4 preset ones?

Edit. Yes, just go to middle icon att the bottom and log in.

[–] stoic_sloth@aussie.zone 1 points 2 years ago

Yes. The last option (other) will let you enter the URL of the instance you want.

You can then enter your credentials and proceed to use it as your new home

WefWef rocks. It has a nice name, too.

It can look as nice as it gets. A PWA remains a PWA. Yes, I understand that there are people that like it. I don't. I still hope for an Apollo port to Lemmy. But the development progress of Mlem and Memmy is remarkable as well.

It’s really good and well made as well, put in a pull request today to add a feature and getting it setup locally as a dev was so easy!

I’m very tempted to self host it on my instance as well

[–] BowtiesAreCool@reddthat.com 1 points 2 years ago

It immediately felt so right that I committed half an hour to really figuring out what this was and how it all worked. Okay to be fair I only kind of know how it all works

[–] 5cc913zx@beehaw.org 1 points 2 years ago

This is incredible, thanks for sharing!

My PWAs always feel slow, unresponsive, and also run at what feels like 30fps rather than 120. Is this just how PWAs are? I'm using Firefox on Android.

[–] Unwind2046@iusearchlinux.fyi 1 points 2 years ago

Wow this is great - thanks for the hot tip!!

It looks really nice, kind of funny seeing the iOS-UI on Android. But I loved Apollo before switching to Android.

[–] Riyria@beehaw.org 1 points 2 years ago

Omg I just checked out wefwef. I hope they release a downloadable app soon. The UI is fantastic.

[–] Natha@beehaw.org 1 points 2 years ago

Yup, that's Apollo in a web browser.

I don't have iOS to compare it to Apollo, but WefWef is - so far - the best way I've come across to browse Lemmy. I've installed it on my Android phone, and it handled logging in and presenting a home screen with the communities I'm subscribed to better than the Jerboa, which was very flaky about logging in, and only wants to show me the communities that the instance I signed up to happens to have.

WefWef didn't show any posts before I logged in, and it's not super intuitive about how to do so, and once I'd figured out that I need to press the middle icon, it turns out I'd made life a bit harder for myself by signing up with a less popular instance ("don't overthink it" they said!).

Anyway, I'm also using WefWef from my PC - the feed is a bit narrow obviously, but it's worth mentioning that the app works well from Windows too.

As an Android user, wefwef is such a fantastically designed app. I was still using an old iPhone and iPad Pro to browse Reddit as a longtime Apollo Ultra user so the UI is just perfect for my tastes.

[–] Klinkertinlegs@beehaw.org 1 points 2 years ago

I could kiss you OP. This is the best recommendation ever!

[–] PiselloSauro@feddit.it 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Currently using it on my ipad and it’s actually really good. Don’t care if it’s not a native app, it’s still very performant and usable

[–] Dreadino@feddit.it 1 points 2 years ago

Does it have a big screen layout? I’d use it on my Mac in a heartbeat
