Practically everything is action these days. How can they want more of it?

Cause marvel taught them marvel movies are the only movies worth a damn by consistently making 100 mediocre movies that are not terrible. Exactly like fast food.

Comedies seem to bomb at the box office which is why we have seen fewer recently. Horror is the only pure "genre" that seems to have consistently good profits.

with 72% agreeing that going to a movie in a theater is a good value for the money.

I find most of the numbers from this survey to be dubious, but this one is insane. I would love to know just how leading these questions were.

They do say they surveyed moviegoers. That's a lot of self selection right there. I think movie theaters are a terrible value so I hardly ever go to theaters.

Here you can find movies that are priced around 1 hr of min wage at fairly decent theaters , so lots of ppl go to a theater for a big release. And i support 1/3 of the title , we kinda need more good comedies that arent slapstic humour but some good comedic social commentairy told trough humour and not another "dystopian vibes" action movie

Remember the results are global. In my country it's good value. There's a lot of competition because it's not lucrative enough for monopolising franchises anymore.

Do I still go? No, not really. Great big-screen movies aren't as frequent as they once were and it doesn't cost much to get a good display and sound in a lounge room. It doesn't help that the "experience" of going isn't there anymore. Cinemas give off strip mall vibes,

Remember the results are global.

Thank you for the reminder.

Most theaters nowadays have discount days. $7 Tuesdays in several cities I've visited this year.

And I remember $8 being considered expensive. Of course, there's been inflation, but not enough to make up for the increase in ticket and food prices. There are people spending 10 bucks for a bag of popcorn.

[–] Syntha@sh.itjust.works 1 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

In the US average ticket price has actually stayed in line with inflation

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 1 points 3 hours ago

It's like $18 for a single ticket now. That doesn't seem right.

[–] keyez@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Fair, though $7 doesn't go far anymore it's only half a burrito at most places. I usually don't get popcorn and other stuff so for a family I understand that is still pricey. At my local Alamo I'd combine the ticket as dinner so it was a pricey dinner and drink or two with a full experience.

Alternately β€œ72% of patrons interviewed live outside of the U.S.”

[–] xyzzy@lemm.ee 4 points 22 hours ago

I saw a non-horror movie yesterday, and 3 out of the 4 previews were for horror movies, including one entire scene from one.

Studios are creatively bankrupt.

I want more pure comedies for sure. Feels like comedies are dead. Too much tip toeing around and playing safe due to "cancel culture"
