RULES (updated 01/22/25)

  1. Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling. To be concise, disrespect is defined by escalation.
  2. Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible. You won't be punished for trying.
  3. Avoid controversial topics (politics or societal debates come to mind, though we are not saying not to talk about anything that resembles these). There's a guide in the protocol book offered as a mod model that can be used for that; it's vague until you realize it was made for things like the rule in question. At least four purple answers must apply to a "controversial" message for it to be allowed.
  4. Keep it clean and SFW: No illegal content or anything gross and inappropriate. A rule of thumb is if a recording of a conversation put on another platform would get someone a COPPA violation response, that exact exchange should be avoided when possible.
  5. No solicitation such as ads, promotional content, spam, surveys etc. The chart redirected to above applies to spam material as well, which is one of the reasons its wording is vague, as it applies to a few things. Again, a "spammy" message must be applicable to four purple answers before it's allowed.
  6. Respect privacy as well as truth: Don’t ask for or share any personal information or slander anyone. A rule of thumb is if something is enough info to go by that it "would be a copyright violation if the info was art" as another group put it, or that it alone can be used to narrow someone down to 150 physical humans (Dunbar's Number) or less, it's considered an excess breach of privacy. Slander is defined by intentional utilitarian misguidance at the expense (positive or negative) of a sentient entity. This often links back to or mixes with rule one, which implies, for example, that even something that is true can still amount to what slander is trying to achieve, and that will be looked down upon.

Meh. Finally recovered from corona. It wasn’t like the first two times when it fucked me over for a day or two with fever followed by a quick recovery. I think I didn’t had a fever at all this time? Just out of breath after doing the most mundane shit for a week. That and the hot weather made it suck a lot.

Yesterday I finally started with Baldur’s Gate 3. Yeah, it’s great. Who would have thought?! My only criticism is that I couldn’t build my DnD Character. For some reason Kenkus are off limits, so no Kenku Ranger for me. Said fuck it and made a Half-Orc Ranger with specialisation on ranged attack. Minmaxing is lame anyway.

Covid seems to be everywhere here too. My niece and dad got it (we live together) and somehow I dodged it again. My best friend an hour away got it last weekend and a local friend and her hubby got it this week now. But it seems for all more like a nuisance... takes a few days to run it's course and then it's done.

I can even pinpoint from where I got it this time. My gf is a midwife and she (almost certainly) in turn got it from a woman giving birth. What pissed me off this time was that I never really felt that weak before. Even when I was laying flat I still had my strength. Don’t know how to describe it. I felt old when I liftet a 5 kilo bag of rice inside my kitchen. It was unnerving. Call yourself lucky to dodge this one.

Glad you're feeling better!

I've been meaning to get around to playing Baldur’s Gate 3 for a long time. What's your fave part about Baldur’s Gate 3?

[–] rustyfish@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

As of now? It is extremely close to DnD. I mean it is DnD and the devs made sure it felt like playing the original. I like the fact that I barely have to look up anything when I level up. Because I still remember what skills are good or not from my time playing and DMing. Also the game looks great, sounds great and the companions are a delight (except that goody two shoes killjoy Wyll).

Oh and you have a lot of freedom. Freedom to fuck up and suffer the consequences. Which I enjoy very much!

I'm still struggling to find the right balance of my meds so I sleep but don't wake up groggy for 5 hours. But I'm sleeping for hours at a time now which wasn't happening the past year. Taking the family on a lunch cruise on the river this Saturday, hoping that turns out nice.

Vacaciones, vacation...well, a long weekend at least, but not to soon after the high season.

My broken big toe is healing enough that now I'm only hobbling a little bit (comparatively). Started writing a song in 5/4. Had a nice Vietnamese meal. Planted some new plants in the garden, including a dianthus which I looked up and found interesting. Signed up to mbin. Those are the highlights.

5/4... rare soul! Love to hear it!!!

So far it's just 2 interwoven sections of strummed chords, very simple sections. But it sounds so bouncy! I'll post it if I manage to do something good with it.

Haven't slept well all week...

Finally started graduate school and seems pretty okay so far. Haven't been able to connect much to my cohort, but a bit closer with my actual area. I'm not too down about that given I'm trying to treat this as a job than as school, and have always been shy and anxious (though not so much anymore). It'll just be something that comes naturally over time I hope as my nerves settle down a bit and Im able to meet more people in the department and in my classes.

Trying to learn Python then leapfrog from that to do more advanced analyses with AI. Good and bad, good as it seems to give me a bit of an edge on my cohort (not to validate my worth on my status to others) but bad as I didn't really expect to be doing this so early and no one has any real resources to learn. So it's up to myself to figure it out.
