I pay for Netflix, Disney+, and Prime. We also watch some Tubi with ads, but of course that's free.
That's plenty of TV for me. Definitely cheaper than cable though.
This is a most excellent place for technology news and articles.

How is streaming more expensive than cable? Am I obligated to pay disney+ to see something on TV+?
This is basically an article bought and paid for by cable. Streaming is only expensive if you own everything. The benefit is you have far more options and control over the content you pay for. There is no "crash". These services are all stable or growing still. Cable is still what is dying though the industry will try all it can to presume otherwise.
This doesn't make sense unless you sign up for every service. And at that point, are you an idiot or something? Just cancel subscriptions that you aren't watching a show on.
That said, I'm not defending streaming services. Having so many of the damn things sucks. Just don't pay for all of them.
Eventually this will settle out to three streaming platforms, call them 'ABC, CBS, NBC'', with shitty ad-filled shitcoms, fake reality dramadies, and tru-crime idiocy, all generated by ai. Your screen will provide the necessary data back to the ai models to keep your gaze fixated and your credit maxed out. You will be consumed. You are the commodity.
In other news Taylor Swift will sell her 2023 tour as data for the TS2023 Virtual Experience, which will play globally for all eternity everywhere.
Already cancelled my Disney Plus. I'm paying close to nothing for HBO Max, so I'll keep that around for now, and Netflix is still worth it imo.
It's a shame streaming has gotten so fragmented though.
