I'm in both, but I'm a Reddit refugee looking for a similar experience. 99% of my Reddit's time was through the RIF app and Jeroba looks and feels the same, so currently I only use lemmy.
I wouldn't mind switching over to kbin if it gets better in the future since I can read everything from anywhere.
Idk i just heard of lemmy first
I prefer the UI of lemmy.world to Kbin, and it's been smoother for me as well. But I've got an account at both. Still haven't entirely made up my mind on which to make my "main".
I'm in the very same boat, but I find myself using kbin more every day. BUT Sync for Lemmy is comming, so...
I feel like Lemmy has more content, probably because it's been around longer, so it's a good base to build from.
I'm also giving an answer to the other thread on Kbin, since I think there are good reasons to use that one as well. They're both solid, and I'm using both regularly--often viewing posts from one service on the other. For me, it's "yes AND," not "no BUT."
Php
I first was on Lemmy, now on kbin. Kbin is just a much more nicer experience. Also it's not developed by tankies who glorify f*cking Mao Zedong. Simple as that.
Fair enough, but unless their politics influence the platform then there really isn't an issue. So far they don't, and there isn't.
The tankie thing keeps pushing me away from lemmy, but lemmy seems to be the only software getting clients at the moment. So I'm torn. I want an iOS client badly, but I don't want to support tankies.
I suppose I shouldn't sell out for a nice app though.
Artemis is showing a lot of promise, and they're focusing on kbin first since Lemmy already has jerboa being developed-
what is a tankie?
Stalinists. It originated in British left-wing politics, in reference to British communists who supported the Soviet Union when they sent tanks in to crush the Hungarian Revolution in 1956 (in contrast to those British communists who broke away from the Soviets over this), but nowadays it's used more generally to refer to that brand of authoritarian leftists who act as apologists for Putin, the Chinese Communist Party, North Korea, etc.
Has there been conducted any studies into where these people come from? Both geographically, generationally, and ideologically. Is it just random people with a fascination with the Soviet Union who somehow end up reading a bit too much Russia Today? Are they brainwashed from birth?
I struggle to believe how any well meaning leftie could take a look at Putin and think "yeah, that's what I'm talking about".
Canβt respond with any studies but based on my own experience (and failings), it often begins with a feeling of, "What else have they lied about?" This usually occurs after one starts questioning 'the system'. At the same time, seeing entities like Russia/China/etc. as the only forces combating whatever represents "the system" for them can contribute to this mindset.
Using the vague βthe systemβ since this pattern of thought isn't exclusive to any one group, such as tankies, but rather is a more widespread phenomenon.
@hariette is making an app called Artemis for both Android and iOS that is looking pretty good so far. You can apply to be an alpha tester if you want to use it early.
It looks very promising, and I like how inspired it is by the reddit Apollo app.
Kbin just sounds cooler, dude.
I mean, lemmy - that's just lame with extra steps. Eww. Yuck. Yucky. Not cool. Actual cringe, tbh. π€’
Kbin. That's like cool-beans, dude. Actually rad. And based. π
Who doesn't want to be cool? I tell you, nerds, that's who. Do you want to be a nerd? Didn't think so.
Checkmate. Try proving me wrong (pro-tip: you can't)
Lemmy is one of the coolest musicians to ever live. There, I won the argument.
iirc Lemmy is God, so yeah
