Happy people who aren't starving produce a lot more value to our economy (especially if you measure in happiness per capita) than beggars and involuntary homeless people.
But they are not as easily controlled and shoved out of the way if our plutocratic lords want to just cut them off.
Happy people are also happy bc they have more security and rights that they have the means to enforce. That is terrifying if your goal in life is to squeeze as much as you can out of others.
