I need to buy some NAS drives. Originally I wanted to go for seagate but they being US company, I have no desire anymore. WD is also US. I know I could opt for Toshiba (Japan) or Synology (Taiwan), both probably excellent options, but I am curious, do we have something european? I didn't find anything. Any experience with the Toshiba or Synology regarding reliability? Thanks

There are only these three hddcompanies left: WD, Seagate and Toshiba.
Synology doesn't produce drives, they buy them from Toshiba.

If you want to know which drives are good have a look at the backblaze reports:
https://www.backblaze.com/blog/backblaze-drive-stats-for-2024/
They still list HGST (Hitachi) drives separately. Hitachi was bought by WD more than 10 years ago.
