Introduction

This community is designed as a gathering place for the entire No Man's Sky community on Lemmy. It's a new community, created June 2023. We're open to suggestions and volunteers!

Rules

1) Keep it civil.

Disagreements and dissenting opinions are fine, but there's no reason to get hostile. Explain your position civilly and accept differences of opinion.

This also extends to a ban on posts promoting hostile groups or griefing / trolling actions, such as "hunting" players who don't want to be involved in PVP or building bases designed to cover / destroy another player's base.

Generic, negative shitposting is also not allowed. (This game SUCKS! Sean lied! etc)

2) Keep it relevant.

Posts should relate to No Man's Sky in some way.

Off-topic comments & conversations are fine, but actual posts & links shouldn't be off-topic.

3) Limit self-promotional content.

Any monetized content sources, defined as any direct link or de facto redirect to any source which generates revenue through sales, subscriptions, or advertisement views, may not be shared in this community more frequently than once every 7 days.

This includes monetized YouTube channels - if you want to help the community with videos more frequently, you can always upload them directly to our subreddit.

Non-monetized self promotion may be removed at moderator discretion if it becomes excessive

4) No AI-Generated Content

Posts which primarily feature content generated by AI will be removed.

Posts which feature auxiliary AI content - for example, using an AI background remover for graphic design, or posts which utilize AI image-resolution enhancement tools - are permitted.

5) NMS Community Network Rules

These rules apply across a network of No Man's Sky communities, including c/nmsgalactichub. Severe rule violations may result in a ban not only from this community, but other communities in the network.

The system says I discovered it, the planet was shown as undiscovered other than my scan. But I have seen other systems/planets say similar and then upon reloading showing someone else discovered it.

I did build a base there because it is one of those nifty planets in black and white except for reds. But it has wicked firestorms (almost died loading in from teleporting.)

I did not have enough room to bring all of my bones back to my main save when I finished Relics, so I built a base and displayed all of the pieces. After completion I warped back to the base and was able to pick up all of my bones.

Most space stations feels the same.

I found a pirate station which had a different layout, that was fun. Are there more of these "different types" ?

Does this change later in the game? I'm looking for steep elevation changes, changes in light/sunlight, temperature, or oceans. A planet with ice caps would be cool. It feels like every planet has the same gravity and day/night cycle, etc.

The new Relics update for No Man's Sky expands the abandoned universe mode and introduces new archaeology content.

Fans can jump into the limited-time Relics expedition to earn unique rewards like living stone armor and a skeletal creature companion egg

Abandoned universes now provide access to purple star systems without the need for story progression, making it a unique way to play.

Turn your hand to palaeontology in update 5.6, RELICS! Unearth hundreds of unique bones, assemble skeletons to design fossil exhibits, join the community on an expedition to recreate lost creatures, battle against gargantuan stone guardians, and more!

The new baddies look cool, cannot wait to mess with them.

That's right, negative one sentinel units in play.

Yes, this did have the predictable result of not allowing any additional Sentinels to spawn in and also locked me in the Sentinel "combat" state forever until I left the planet. Whereupon I was immediately jumped by a Sentinel capital ship which I summarily blew up.

I'm with the Vy'keen on this one, these guys need to go to hell already.

Or, day 34: The Gek have still not realized I am not one of them...

Here we go again...

For no particular reason I'm trying to work on maxing my Vy'keen milestones and as we all know, one of them requires destroying a lot of sentinel walkers.

Before anyone gets it twisted, this is not a whine about the supposed "difficulty" of fighting the Sentinels. Destroying them is actually trivial. I am a planetary catastrophe on legs; my riced out neutron cannon can destroy most types other than the laser dogs and the walkers with a single shot. Rather, here's what happens:

I can fight through the usual levels one, two, three, and four waves as usual with the typical escalation of units thrown at you. Wave 4 spawns one of the mini-walkers, which I blow up.

What usually happens (or used to happen) is that wave five would spawn a couple of laser dogs/quads, a bunch of various little flyers, and after a short delay one of the big bipedal walkers. You fight this guy, he blows up, and your wanted meter turns blue and the Sentinels are out of your face for 20 minutes or whatever. We all know how it is, right?

Well, now the big walker never spawns. I get one laser dog and one mini-walker instead, and no big walker. But my wanted level enters some kind of bugged state where I am always "Detected!" no matter how far I go and no more Sentinels spawn after I destroy the initial few.

I'm just stuck listening to the stupid wannabe breakcore combat music forever. No Sentinels are visible, there are no red dots indicating their locations on the HUD, but I am being "seen" by someone erroneously no matter how far I go on the planet's surface. The big walker is absolutely not stuck in the ground anywhere or hiding behind a mountain -- Believe me, I've checked. All I can do is cheese with my cloaking module until the wanted level eventually decays down to zero, and then start the whole process over.

This has happened to me literally every time I've tried to escalate a Sentinel fight to maximum since the latest update, on multiple planets of all types and biomes, in at least two different galaxies. High or low Sentinel security level, it doesn't matter.

It's worth noting that if I go to a Sentinel Pillar there is still usually a big walker there, as normal.

What gives? Is anyone else encountering this, or is it just fuck me in particular?

I'm just starting out on the expedition and trying to visit all the starting planet's moons. This is being made more difficult by the number of bases in this system. I can't point my ship at one and see if it's temperate or if it's radioactive, or if it's frozen or so on. This is because I'm only given information about one base on each planet.

Is there a way to turn this off?
