Hey guys, I am using Objective-See's LuLu Firewall alongside Mullvad VPN on MacOS (everything is up to date). If the VPN and LuLu are used at the same time, the speeds are near zero. When I disable LuLu, VPN speed becomes normal. Is there a way to set those 2 apps for normal speeds? Thanks!

Looks like all the servers available through Atlanta just disappeared. Did any user get notification?

Hello all, here the brief.

I've got my whole ecosystem at Proton for the slightly sensitive part, the other at self host for the very sensitive (nothing illegal, i swear).

Can you convince me to pay a subscription to Mullvad to give it a try? This is a serious and open question on my part, a real request based on your feedback and opinions! Tell me what you like about Mullvad.

I'm in IT stuffs, so don't be afraid to go into technical details.

I look forward to all replies with haste and pleasure

I recently discovered that Mullvad's DNS filtering is free. I like to pay for their VPN when I am traveling or will be connecting to a lot of public WiFi, but at home I don't typically use a VPN. I do however use Adguard DNS to filter and encrypt my interent traffic on my iOS and iPadOS devices.

How do I configure system wide encrypted DNS filtering on iOS using Mullvad. I assume I use a different DNS filtering app and then use Mullvad's DNS url? Or will the Mullvad VPN app still filter DNS traffic even after my VPN subscription expires?

I am asking this because I use Tailscale to access my self hosted websites but want to know if using Mullvad within Tailscale to route my website traffic (on my phone) will route to the Mullvad exit node securely and be able to access my home network. Or if I should just disconnect from Tailscale and use standalone mullvad.

Mullvad is just becoming unusable for me. On iOS, I can’t open any Twitter (X) links, Facebook links, and some other sites just don’t let me access them. I also can’t download videos from Instagram anymore. With other VPNs, I don’t have this problem. Is anybody else having the same issues?

I need to have at least one single browser without a vpn on due to stupid remote work company policies.

I have trief enabling split tunnel but it kills the connection of all browsers I tried so far.

Im on windows 11. tried with librewolf, ungoogled and mullvad browsers.

How do i enable this setting?

I'm not quite clear if Mullvad will route all connections (outside of Apple specific ones) through the iOS vpn or if apps can bypass it?

For instance, can the Facebook and Instagram apps use other connections that don't run through Mullvad? What if the iOS app stops working, does the "kill switch" stop the Instagram apps from connecting, or does it just switch to the standard wifi or cell data?

Prior to the 2-day CCP session, Mullvad worked perfectly. Now it's a disaster for people living in China for weeks. I reached out to support and all I received back was a link to an older reddit post where someone listed some servers that might work. What is that about? Why not actively try to help users and enhance connectivity in China instead of focusing on less useful features like DAITA?

As mentioned the other gripe is that even after you manage to connect, after 4 pm local time, the speed drops so dramatically, it's basically unusable. Sad to say my backup VPN is now my primary.

I'm unsure I'll renew as I don't feel Mullvad is actively assisting users in China based on their useless response. Very disappointed as I used to have nothing but praise and recommended Mullvad to lots of visitors here.

Has anyone had an issue where all downloads fail while connected to Mullvad? I can't download even small files like less than 1000mb mods for games. I'm new to Mullvad, I haven't been able to use it at all when downloading anything. I've tried different server locations and have tried with DAITA both on and off. Any advice?

Hello, I am using the Kuala Lumpur server and when I am browsing it feels significantly slower than normal, I have enabled the DAITA functionality, is this necessary or better to turn it of?

Thanks!

Hey All,

Recently I switched to Arch Linux from Kubuntu, and I noticed when I have Mullvad enabled at startup, Discord and Steam are unable to connect. Steam is unable to connect to the web and Discord just loops on "Failed Update". When I disconnect though, Discord fixes itself and Steam works again after a restart. If I re-enable it later, Discord continues to work, but Steam breaks again. I did not have any of these problems on Kubuntu. On top of that, Mullvad seems to bog down my speeds more on Arch then it did on Kubuntu.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Never used a vpn before, this is my first one. Like the title says, a bunch of command prompt windows started randomly popping up all over my screen, and were closing immediately. Is this normal?

Mullvad has so many over-the-top features and has gone through numerous audits of their app, but for some reason, their browser extension is still absolute garbage compared to the app.

I don’t mean this as hate, but the extension really is just terrible and is missing half the features of the app. For example, it doesn’t even support the most basic things, such as split tunneling.

I understand that their focus may be more on the app, but is it really that dramatic? Their app is built like a fortress and gets updated every couple of days, while the extension hasn’t been updated for several months now.

Mullvad’s app is honestly a 10/10 but wouldn’t it be a bit better if they updated or worked on their extension more than just once every full moon or so?

To further increase your privacy and make your traffic harder to analyze, you can now route all your traffic through two servers instead of just one, directly in our Android app, version 2025.1 and newer.

https://preview.redd.it/dvjo1dy40fre1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=3933676193a71c479c958dc1d90f9b1975d18ba0

Our multihop feature allows you to route traffic through multiple servers, creating a tunnel within a tunnel. This means that your traffic passes through two servers—an entry server and an exit server—before reaching its final destination.

By selecting servers in different jurisdictions or hosting providers, you make it slightly harder for anyone to trace your data back to you. Please note that depending on the location of the two servers, this could potentially degrade your network performance.

How

To activate multihop on Android, follow these steps:

  • Go to SettingsMultihop
  • Turn on multihop by pressing the toggle.

Once activated, you can select your desired entry and exit locations by going back to the main view and opening the Switch location screen. You'll see two tabs at the top: Entry and Exit, where you can choose your locations accordingly.

Why

Routing your traffic through multiple servers in separate jurisdictions gives you a higher level of privacy and security, even if one server were to be compromised. Adversaries would need to launch timing attacks against the traffic in multiple locations in order to analyze your online usage.

Link: https[://]mullvad[.]net/en/blog/daita-version-2-now-available-on-all-platforms

We are now releasing version 2 of our Defense Against AI-guided Traffic Analysis (DAITA).

DAITA version 2 brings two major improvements: a large reduction in traffic overhead and dynamic configurations that vary VPN tunnel characteristics between connections, making it harder for attackers targeting DAITA.

Traffic overhead reduction

DAITA uses two types of cover traffic that add significant overhead to the connection. The first one is constant packet sizes, where DAITA is padding all packets to the same size to erase patterns that would otherwise exist. The second one is the addition of dummy packets to distort network patterns further. This second defense has now been more finely tuned in DAITA version 2. By more carefully inserting these dummy packets, we use about half the amount of these packets while still maintaining the same level of defense. As a customer using DAITA, the immediate benefit is improved speed.

Dynamic configurations

With DAITA version 1, all VPN connections use the same set of rules governing the insertion of dummy packets from VPN clients. This makes it easier for an attacker with sufficient resources and determination to create tailored attacks for circumventing DAITA.

When a user activates DAITA version 2, Mullvad's servers randomly select and assign a dynamic configuration to the VPN connection. This configuration affects how both the client and the VPN server insert dummy packets. Two clients visiting the same webpage will now produce different in-tunnel data streams, which carry through to the tunnel transport layer, resulting in VPN tunnels with unpredictable characteristics despite transporting the same data. Additionally, whenever a device recreates its VPN connection, a new configuration is selected from the thousands of possible configurations.

What's next?

DAITA version 3 is already on the roadmap and will introduce a new type of defense alongside the existing ones. Watch this space for more updates as we advance the state of accessible and performant network traffic defense.

Just a suggestion lol it took me a bit to find the "scratch cards" on the mullvad site, its under pricing tab about halfway down the page under "Do you offer any type of discount?" in even smaller text "resellers that offer Mullvad VPN " on a page that is titled "Partnerships and Resellers" lol NO HATE im just saying, i had to use a search engine to easily find a page. I understand supporting the resellers but from a customer POV its hard to know what to type or where to look lol even clicking on the help tab and search fast enough "voucher" before the suggested hits pop up, it sends you to "guides" with no info, it needs to redirect instead to "blog post" where the info is. i love mullvad just trying to help

Connecting to Mullvad makes my Tailscale server completely inaccessible.

I’m aware that Mullvad has an integration with Tailscale, but I don’t think that integration fits my needs. I don’t need to be putting internet traffic through Tailscale. I just want both of them to do their own thing separately without interrupting each other.

Since I just need Mullvad for one self-hosted program, would it be practical for me to put both of those in some sort of isolated network i.e. a subnet? How might I go about it?

How often are the IP addresses of your proxies rotated?

Would it help evade detection from blocklists used by websites if they were rotated more often?
