Hey. I've been using mullvad for some time now. Through problems with the opensuse kernel I switched from the app version to the wireguard version. I'm rather new to all things networking so I can't figure out how do I set exceptions for my local network? I got the config files for the servers etc which all work fine, but I can't access my local area network. I use the KDE desktop and network manager.

I found something regarding allowed IPs, but that blocked everything when I changed that up.

again I'm rather inexperienced in routing etc so help is very much appreciated.

edit: my local network runs over 192.168.178.x

Hey everyone,

I accidentally transferred $1,200 BTC into my Mullvad account instead of a much smaller amount. Has anyone had experience with getting a refund for something like this? I know Mullvad has a strong privacy-first approach, but I’m hoping they might make an exception for accidental overpayments.

I wanted to check here in case anyone has been through a similar situation. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hello

I have a 1Gbps internet and have been enjoying mullvad in a Chinese like country. (cant name the country)

But for the last few days, around a week, my speed with Mullvad has been so slow that it's slower than TOR browser and i have to wait few seconds for every site to load.

my current speed with mullvad is 1 to 4 Mbps.

I contacted Mullvad's support and after few suggestions they said "we can't do anything about it, it's because of restrictions on your country."

just asking here to see if anyone has any idea for making this better, i tried proton and it had a good speed but im not happy with few of it's options like i have to disable Permanent Killswitch before using split tunneling.

EDIT: i don't know what it is but setting MTU to 1280 then using shadowsocks made it work, i have faster connection than proton but still not as fast as it was a week ago. its still a win for me, thank you a lot.

Last week I generated a token to pay in cash. But I keep forgetting to go to the Post Office and send it out. I know it'll take at least two weeks to arrive. Will it still be good by the time it gets there, or should I just make a new one?

I've been having a lot of problems and still have no real solution. So far this has been stable. I followed the reconnect issues guide from PLEX unable to get that to work I troubleshot for a few more hours.

Honestly I don't know what got it to work. But I hope this all helps.

Step 1. Exclude Plex media server on Mullvad (and many more seen below)

Step 2. Turn off Plex media server and make sure its closed in task bar

Step 3. Turn on the Plex Media server.

Step 4. Assign different ports to be used on the Remote Access page, main server to be 32400, alternate server being automatically selected by plex

Step 4.5 Port forwarded just 32400 and not the alternate server port

Step 5. Turn off Mullvad

Step 6. Press the Apply button on PLEX remote access settings

Step 7. Turn on Mullvad

Additional things I've tried

Turn off Mullvad then connect to remote access on plex, then turn on mullvad. This fails after refreshing my page

I have included every application in the Plex Media Server folder for split tunneling.

PlexScriptHost

Plex Update Service

Plex Update Service Launcher

Plex Tuner Service

Plex Transcoder

Plex SQLite

Plex Relay

Plex Media Server

Plex Media Scanner

Plex Media Fingerprint

Plex DLNA Server

Plex Commercial Skipper

CrashUploader

Then retry remote access on Plex. Failed after 30 seconds.

Turned off Manually specified public port on my main server and let plex automatically assign a port, then checked to see if http://canyouseeme.org/ worked on those ports

I've been using Mullvad VPN for a couple of years now, and I genuinely think it's one of the best VPNs out there.

Recently, I bought a NAS and secured it with Tailscale, allowing me to access it from anywhere.

Unfortunately, I've run into an issue: running both Mullvad VPN and Tailscale at the same time doesn’t work. Tailscale loses its connection to my NAS. (Apparently, this is a well-known problem.)

I noticed there's a Mullvad addon for Tailscale, and I’m curious: is it any good? Can it for example handle split tunneling, and is it easy to switch locations? I would mainly use it on a Windows PC and Android phone.

Thanks!

I’m looking at getting a vpn, and I’m looking to hear from you guys what makes Mullvad better than the others?

The only thing I keep hearing is that Mullvad had “no-log policy” whatever this means. But most of Mullvad’s servers are rented, like Quardranet which other VPNs that don’t tout about their “no-log policy” also rent from. So how do we make sure that the server provider actually isn’t logging stuff? Can someone help me understand this please

The other thing I keep hearing is that Mullvad doesn’t require an email address, this is not value prop to me since I use aliases to sign up for stuff anyways, so even if the other platforms asks for email, it’s not an email that ties to me. I can also use a prepaid card or gift card to pay for the VPN so they don’t have my personal card details

So with these two out of the way, what makes Mullvad any better than say Windscribe or Proton?

I have Mullvad on my Plex server and want to use the remote access option. Is this possible?

  1. I tried enabling Local Area Network access in Mullvad, but this only allows me to access my Plex server when I'm on the same LAN.
  2. I tried to exclude "Plex Media Server" from Mullvad in the Split Tunneling options, but it doesn't seem to do anything. Remote access is still disabled.

Does anyone know how to get this to work?

Since Mullvad doesn't support port forwarding, what's the best way to access qBittorrent's Web UI outside of my LAN? I am port forwarding port 8080 via my router but that doesn't help since I'm behind Mullvad.

Anyone else notice much slower speeds in European servers recently?

It used to be that I might need to bounce around a couple servers before finding a good one, but now even a "good" one is slower than usual, and becomes "bad" very quickly.

I would not mind having a higher tier where I pay more for more consistently fast servers. Or maybe I'm just doing something wrong, but that's unlikely as I've noticed this across devices

On macOS using the Mullvad app. The connection drops and reconnects very often, more at night. For instance I was on one connection pretty much all day today but now in the evening the connection keeps dropping and reconnecting elsewhere. Connects for a bit and the dance starts all over again. This is in the US with US servers. Anyone else seeing this?

Do Mullvad's Encrypted DNS for their VPN make anonymization & privacy worse? [Their 100.64.0.x servers: https://github.com/mullvad/dns-blocklists#custom-dns-entries ]

Hi, I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but WHY is the latest Mullvad Browser version (14.0.4) based on Firefox 128.x, while the latest FF version at the time of writing is 134.x?

Security wise this does not make sense to me. Could someone please explain? Any answer would be appreciated.

I could not find an answer anywhere else, hence my post.

"Blocking internet. Unable to set system DNS server. Please send a problem report."

Been using Mullvad for about 10 days now, and I get this error every time my computer wakes from sleep/hibernation, or when I change from one wifi to another. All the results I get when I do a search seem to be about MacOS and usually some kind of interference from Facetime, but I'm on Windows 11.

It's easily fixed by switching location, but it's really annoying to have to do that all the time.

Does anyone know how to fix it?

I had relatively good experience with Mullvad until recently. I'm resident in Turkey using TurkTelekom and had been using it for censorship circumvention. Recently my ISP started to throttle speed when using wireguard protocol; I simply switched to OpenVPN but now it is in same situation either. Normally I'm getting around 250 mbps but with vpn it instantly drops to 1-2 mbps (only download, upload speeds not effected somehow?). Furthermore using wireguard with shadowsocks but without multihop results being cut from internet completely.

My current configuration is Encrypted DNS Proxy + Wireguard + Shadowsocs + Port 443 (others ports gives worse results) + MTU 1400 + Goodbype DPI. This is the best case and I get around 11-12 mbps.

Does anybody has any advice how I can improve more or any workaround to this situation? Like they even blocked port 22; can't ssh to my own servers. Customer support claims bs reasons for it and claiming they can't do anything about blocked ports.

I've been a customer for many years now, and for the past...threeish months or so, I've found the browsing experience to be rather annoying.

Mullvad's servers are blocked on several sites I visit.

Reddit usually requires me to change servers three times before I can connect to something.

More frustratingly, for the past month or so, youtube has seemingly blocked every server. I just sit there reconnecting and it takes about ten tries to find a server that Youtube will accept.

Is this happening with anyone else? And more to the point, is there anything I can do to make connecting to these sites easier?

Hey,

I'm looking for a new VPN, currently using Nord, but after finding out the parent company for Nord controls majority of the well known VPN solutions I've been doing some research into alternatives and have been attracted to suss out Mullvad.

I'm super happy this VPN does not require you to create login credentials to use, but I wanted to reach out to this sub to see how everyones experience using Mullvad has been!

Experiences I'm keen to hear about can be broken down like so;

1. Region locked content via streaming service, how's the latency when connecting to distant servers?

2. P2P via Swiss servers, does Mullvad support this? If so, is establishing a connection fairly simple?

3. How's the GUI? I haven't seen any screenshots of Mullvad, I know it may not be as flash as Nord, but as long as it isn't just a boring settings config with no visual interface I'm interested

4. Have you also switched to Mullvad from Nord? tell me how your experience was!
