on one hand i think the rules are in favor of the users privacy but on the other hand if someone caught torrenting they get fined, so it's confusing if a user's activity are private or not.

At my coreelec i am connected to vpn, i can confirm that the ip is correct but i see the 1.1.1.1 dns that i have set at connections settings. If i set it to auto is displaying the router ip so it is using the isp dns.

What can i do to work with mullvad dns only?

Hey I recently made the decision to buy mullvad since my isp got on my ass about pirating and I binded it once I start downloading does it automatically choose the best servers for me or is there a way to choose what server I want mullvad to use?

I'm having an issue with Mullvad disconnecting for a few seconds then connecting again randomly throughout the day sometimes, several times an hour.

I've tried using my internet without the VPN on and get no drops so it's definitely VPN related. I've also tried reinstalling the program, which didn't help.

One theory was another app could be interfering with Mullvad. I keep Malwarebytes open but have checked the settings on there for any clashes and don't see a problem. Same with AdGuard.

On the Mullvad settings I have DAITA off, Multihop off, Enable IPv6 off, Tunnel Protocol Auto, Custom DNS server off, split tunnelling off and have the latest version installed.

Anyone who's had similar issues or can advise on a solution, would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Is there a way to use AdGuard DNS along with Mullvad VPN on iPhone at the same time? I have tried setting it up, and I understand why it's asking to set up the DNS as a VPN but it won't allow me to use both but just one at a time.

I want to port forward Plex and Minecraft on my Mac mini, but this isn't possible when I enable Mullvad. I tried using the VPN blacklist feature (split tunneling) on Plex and Minecraft, but it did not work.

I only want to use certain programs, such as iTerm and qBittorrent, behind a VPN. How do I whitelist these apps, so that I can port forward properly while running Mullvad on just those apps?

My speeds are dropping to about 30mbps on the regular lately. Not my connection, speeds with PIA are normal and recently have been playing around with my own VPS server and those are fine too. I checked w 2 friends and they noticed slow speeds tonight as well.

Is this where we are at with Mullvad now? How’s everyone else’s connection this Friday evening?

VPN services like Mullvad, Proton, and similar providers often claim not to log any user data. However, recent developments, such as Apple removing Advanced Data Protection (ADP) for iCloud in the U.K. due to government pressure to create a backdoor for encrypted data, raise important concerns. This leads to a critical question: If the U.K. government were to demand user data from a VPN like Mullvad, and Mullvad responded by stating they don’t store any data (which is true), wouldn’t the U.K. then force them to either shut down their servers in the country or start logging user data? It seems contradictory for such VPN services to continue operating servers in countries with strict data retention laws.

Additionally, many countries prohibit torrenting, yet VPNs still provide users with the ability to torrent through their servers. If these activities are non-compliant with local laws, why don’t such countries simply shut down these servers?

Is there something I’m missing here?

Using Mullvad to get around my work DNS filters, 25.4 and Linux Mint.

I was using a localhosted python driven website (a gradio instance) and noticed it was extremely laggy. Then the program's console started complaining of lost HTTP sockets, and it just got worse.

Turns out two things...

  1. The DAITA traffic is wild. For every request you make, you end up transmitting more and receiving more, but what looks to me like receiving more than you're sending. I get how it works now I think.
  2. This absolutely seems to be saturating my local traffic as well. Maybe not in bandwidth, but along with low system ram availability enough to cause really hard to diagnose issues. I spent an embarassing amount of time removing and re-installing python packages, I now hate pip, only to figure out that my VPN software seems to have taken a nose dive.
  3. This 95% went away with DIATA off, but I saw a couple of cases since that I think the Linux program is causing problems with local traffic when the system memory is occupied by pytorch.

Wild stuff. If it's bug, I hope they fix it soon. I think it may have gotten better with 2025.5. But I don't trust it right now.

Note: See link for attached images (too many for a reddit post).

Freedom of speech is not an isolated right. We hit the streets to highlight the rights we must fight for, not only to protect freedom of speech, but also our right to be free humans.

There is an ongoing intense debate about freedom of speech. Big tech companies claim they are fighting for freedom, while their business model is built on the opposite: control. Politicians talk about democracy, while they are mass monitoring their citizens.

What is missing from the debate is the fact that freedom of speech is not an isolated right. To protect freedom of speech we need to fight for other rights, and it all comes down to privacy. If we don’t have the right to our own thoughts and emotions, without authorities, big tech companies and data brokers mapping all our searches and all the sites we visit, and if we can’t explore our most personal ideas, and decide exactly when and with whom we want to share them – then all our other rights are at risk.

Even before you’re ready to express yourself – while you’re still trying to sort out what you think – big tech companies and data brokers are tracking your most personal thoughts. When you test your ideas on your closest friends – before you’re ready to share it to the world – authorities monitor you. This mass surveillance does not belong in democratic societies.

That’s why we started 2025 with an outdoor campaign highlighting the rights we need to fight for, not only to protect freedom of speech, but to protect our right to be free humans.

I am noticing a significant decline in speed when utilizing servers in Europe tonight. Normally I float in the range of 500-700 Mbps down but tonight I can’t break 2 Mbps down on any server in Europe. It is only happening on European servers.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

I know that Mullvad operates both owned and rented servers. I’m wondering if using their owned servers provides any additional security advantages. Would love to hear insights on this!

I know that once a Mullvad account runs out of paid time, it remains inactive. But I’m wondering—what happens if no payment is made for a while after a month has passed? Does the account stay indefinitely, or does Mullvad eventually remove it?

If they do delete inactive accounts, how long does it take before that happens?

I couldn’t find a clear answer, so I’d appreciate any insights. Thanks!

I have a web page that is not public-facing and I want to be able to resolve the DNS name through a static entry that I've added on my router. My router is configured, in order, with itself as the primary DNS server and then a couple secondary servers. This setup is successful but I've noticed it substantially slows down all other DNS queries, so I'd like to add a secondary server, such as 1.1.1.1, to my Mullvad settings. However, when I do this I'm no longer able to resolve my server's DNS name.

Is there a fix for this?

i currently use private relay as just a general vpn for privacy so i dont get tracked by advertisers and stuff. ive had some issues with safari however so im switching to other browsers and want a vpn. i liked private relay a lot because it was generally fast and was like a "tor" in the sense that i appeared like every other apple user. i cant reasonably use actual tor for regular activities and dont trust pretty much any vpn. is mullvad fast enough for just daily usage and good for my usecase?

I have an 8 year old Reddit account (alt acc) that has just been permanently suspended because I logged in from us-lax-wg-501.

Here’s how I know it was this server IP that Reddit instantly suspends, and not anything else.

  • My account is 8 years old. Have been using it without any problems, have never gotten any warnings from Reddit and no temporary suspensions. Reddit normally gives a warning, followed by a few temporary suspensions (3, 7, 30 days) if a user breaks platform guidelines before permanently suspending an account. Have never even gotten a subreddit ban on this account before.
  • I am a long term Reddit user and I know what is allowed and not allowed. And have read through the Reddit Rules, User Agreement, and Reddiquette thoroughly.
  • I have logged in from other servers without any problems. Multiple different servers.
  • I have verified email and 2FA set up, so Reddit knows the account is not hacked by logging in from a different server.
  • I only/always use the same device with the same timezone every time.
  • I only/always use the default Brave incognito whenever I log into this account. As incognito means there are no cookies stored, and Brave randomizes the browser fingerprint.

There are no warnings whatsoever, no messages by Reddit saying the account is suspended, no red bar at the top of the page, no emails. Just gone as verifiable by looking the profile up without logging in, I can comment but it doesn’t show publicly.

Reddit does not block the IP entirely like how they normally do; instead, it allows you to load Reddit as usual, but if you log in, your account is done for.

To really make sure that this is the case, I created a brand new account on the us-lax-wg-501 server, verify email, set up 2FA, and make 3 extremely vanilla comments the next day and gotten upvotes. Within 24 hours after making the comments, the account got permanently suspended. No rules were broken.

I can still log into other Reddit account using the same device and browser on incognito without any problems, as long as I do not use us-lax-wg-501. This confirms that Reddit has marked that particular IP as the problem while still allowing anyone to use Reddit on that IP.

Perhaps someone in the past has used this server to constantly conduct ban invasion.

Hope this helps others. I’m sure this won’t be the only one that is a problem, if you know of any other servers that are blacklisted by Reddit without outright getting blocked by their firewall, please share it below for the community.

Basically the title - but I'm insanely new at this. I have qbittorrent setup with the Arrs for Jellyfin, but I'm not sure of the best way to route it through Mullvad. I've seen suggestions to do it on its own, to do it through Gluetun (wtf is that lol) and other stuff. I'm tech savvy but not server savvy, any help is insanely appreciated.

Hello, I’m new to this stuff

I just bought the Mullvad vpn and downloaded the browser as well since it’s compatible. However people are saying to use Tor, not against Leta specifically but just overall.

I understand the Mullvad browser has been developed with Tor but I’m confused?

I have uBlock origin and everything is setup and working well.

This is just weird and I am thinking on how to really explain it. I have 2 different accounts. One account for my phone and another account for my desktop, but when I use my phone the vpn on my desktop drops. But if I use the same account on both devices, the vpn stays connected on both devices.

Phone is obviously using wifi, but my desktop is connected via Ethernet, I do not have wifi on my desktop (no radio signals on desktop).

What could be causing this ?
