Gas, grass or ass, nobody rides for free!

[–] realitista@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

You don't need no gas on the internets, brother.

[–] MehBlah@lemmy.world 1 points 21 hours ago

You can only see ass there and its mostly free.

[–] mossberg590@lemmy.world 42 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The improper usage of double quotes is reprehensible. There isn't even an ending mark for the quotation.

[–] prime_number_314159@lemmy.world 30 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Everything following this post, including your comment and mine is also part of a quotation spoken by a very confused talking horse, who was attempting to quote Socrates, but didn't quite get it right." - A confused talking horse

Which will all get fed into a misquoting, fallacy-inducing, lying, hallucinating, LLM.

"Hey you sunza bitches! Get off my lawn!!!" - Nietzsche

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I guess I don't spend enough time online then.

Wtf is "touch?" Wtf is "grass?"

[–] sga@lemmings.world 36 points 1 day ago (1 children)

touch is a cmd to make (or update the mtime of) a file in unix like operating systems. I do not know much about the latter, it seems to be green scaline triangle like thingy earthlings used to grow a lot for not much reason. sometimes, it was also harvested, where some varieties of it produced some seed like thingies (not exactly sure what these seeds are, the seeds that i know of within my database is the starting precursor for randomness in some encryption algorithms)

Apparently grass is the command for the

geographic resource analysis support system

A powerful computational engine for vector and raster data management, geoprocessing, spatial modeling and visualization.

"touch grass" - diogenes upon hearing socrates

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Touch grass, Socrates

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Shut the fuck up old man.

[–] Stalinwolf@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (3 children)

"Touch grass" and "rent free" are the most overused phrases on the internet. Rent Free always gives me the impression that the user has recently been the victim of the phrase themself, and have now started throwing it around at others at every possible opportunity.

[–] TimewornTraveler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

proud to have never used the phrase "rent free" as it is utterly nonsensical

"touch grass" on the other hand is very useful advice!

[–] Stalinwolf@lemmy.ca 2 points 20 hours ago

Viking longships keep raiding the village

"Oi, thems northmen is livin in your head rent free!"

[–] Zizzy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sure sounds like that phrase is living rent free in your head.

[–] Palerider@feddit.uk 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You need to get out more and touch grass...

[–] zmrl@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

To wield the phrase "touch grass" is to admit that you, too, must touch grass.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago
[–] BootLoop@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago

I tried to touch grass but now I just have a new file in my home directory

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

sounds like someone told Socrates to touch grass and he got butthurt about it.

[–] joyjoy@lemmy.zip 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

touch grass means to smoke weed.

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

no. stop co-opting everything.

[–] Darohan@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago

Well then, come, let us touch grass together.

[–] JollyG@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Today on the train-ride into work there was a group of what looked to be men in their mid 50s joking about who in their friend group was “alpha”, “beta” or “sigma”. I think that if, at this point in history, even a near-retirement age group of commuters is using the lingo then internet culture is just culture.

I did have to resist the urge to tell them to touch grass.

In conclusion, putting the internet on everyone’s phones was a huge mistake and we should go back to the way it was in the before-times.

[–] marighost@piefed.social 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Does this mean online phrases like "touch grass," "rent free", and even "skibidi toilet" could be considered cognitohazards?

[–] wizardbeard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago

I'd extend that to most internet memes.

[–] Honytawk@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Would a fish say to touch water?

NO! They are touching water all the time. They have no concept of "no water".

The same with touching grass. You can only call it if you have known places without grass.

[–] outhouseperilous@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Im in california, you wouldn't even recognize the grasses we should have.

[–] multifariace@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I've seen this water claim before. It's just dumb. Do you feel it has any use?

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Apparently given his own definition, even Socrates needs to touch grass.

I prefer clover myself.

[–] Palerider@feddit.uk 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Creeping Thyme is good too...

[–] qarbone@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Partial to hemlock myself. He should give it a try.
